Job Summary
The Archives and Information Studies Programs in the College of STEM at Clayton State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track graduate faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor.
Responsibilities
The Director of the Archives and Information Studies (AIS) Program is responsible for teaching courses in Archival Studies through both synchronous and asynchronous online formats, including during the summer term. Course topics will encompass archives, records management, and archival technologies. Given the program's inclusion of digital archives, candidates must have experience working with electronic records. Preferred qualifications include strengths in the following areas: records management, reference and access services, outreach, digital preservation, and digital curation.
The Director will also lead program outreach efforts and contribute to promoting the College of STEM. Responsibilities include overseeing part-time faculty and supporting the continued growth and visibility of the AIS program.
In addition to administrative and teaching duties, the Director is expected to maintain an active research and scholarly agenda appropriate to the discipline and to participate in service to the university, the profession, and the broader community.
Required Qualifications
- One or more of the following credentials: Master of Archival Studies, Master of Library Science with archival concentration, MS in Library and Information Science with archival concentration, MA in History with archival concentration, or Master's degree in a subject area related to archival work with certification by the Academy of Certified Archives or the Institute for Certified Records Managers, and experience/training in digital archives. Candidates must have at least 18 hours in Archival Studies courses.
- Candidates having an advanced degree in one of the above fields and significant recognition for substantive and distinctive contributions to the field of archival studies or digital curation may also be considered.
- Potential for contributions in research and scholarly activity.
- Candidate must be eligible to hold graduate faculty status at Clayton State University.
- Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States by the time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification by the Academy of Certified Archivists or the Institute for Certified Records Managers preferred.
- Doctorate in archival studies, library and information science, information technology, or another closely related field.
- A record of or potential for distinguished teaching directly related to archival studies.
- The ability to engage students in online courses.
- Three or more years' experience as a professional archivist.
- Experience using software tools to support digital curation and preservation.
- Evidence of current involvement in scholarly research.
