APPLICATIONS FOR THE POSITION OF DIRECTOR OF THE FACULTY OF ENGINEERING OF THE UNIVERSITY OF PORTO TERM OF OFFICE [contact details available in the full listing]
- The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto hereby publicly announces the opening of the application procedure for the position of Director of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto.
- The Director is the governing body of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto responsible for representing FEUP before the other bodies of the University of Porto and externally, presiding over the Executive, Scientific and Pedagogical Councils, and directing the Services of FEUP, in accordance with the Statutes of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto.
- The Director is elected by the Council of Representatives of FEUP, by secret ballot, for a four-year term of office, performing the duties on a full-time exclusive basis.
- Candidates for the position of Director of FEUP may be faculty members or researchers holding a doctoral degree from the University of Porto, or from other national or foreign university education or research institutions, provided that they hold the category of full professor or associate professor, or coordinating researcher or principal researcher, or an equivalent category in the case of candidates from foreign institutions, and provided that they are not covered by any situation of ineligibility or incompatibility provided for in the law and in the Statutes of U.Porto and FEUP.
- The candidate for Director must:
- Be a person of recognised merit and with professional experience relevant to the duties to be performed;
- Have a strategic vision appropriate to the pursuit of the mission and purposes of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, in accordance with its Statutes;
- Have demonstrated the capacity to promote humanistic and scientific values in an environment of collegiality and inclusion.
- Applications are submitted by the candidates themselves to the President of the Council of Representatives of FEUP, exclusively by electronic means, through the platform indicated in paragraph 8, and must be accompanied by the following documents:
- Cover letter from the candidate, dated and signed, containing their personal data and contact details, including an email address expressly designated for receiving notifications within the scope of the electoral procedure;
- Detailed curriculum vitae of the candidate, dated and signed;
- Document proving eligibility to stand for election, namely proof of the status of faculty member or researcher holding a doctoral degree and of the respective professional category, under Article 4 of the Regulation for the election of the Director of FEUP;
- Declaration on honour, dated and signed, stating that the candidate is not covered by any of the situations of ineligibility provided for in the law, in the Statutes of the University of Porto, in the Statutes of FEUP, and in the Regulation for the election of the Director of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto;
- Action programme that the candidate proposes to implement during the four-year term of office, dated and signed, which must address, in a structured manner, the articulation with the FEUP Strategic Plan 2030, the strategic guidelines proposed for FEUP, the objectives to be achieved, the priority actions, the corresponding indicative schedule, the targets envisaged for each year of the term of office, the main assumptions or conditions for implementation, as well as the indicators or monitoring criteria that allow the Council of Representatives to assess, throughout the term of office, the coherence between the programme presented, the activity plans and the activity reports of FEUP.
- The applications and the documents referred to in the preceding paragraph must be written in Portuguese or English and submitted in Portable Document Format (.pdf). Supporting documents issued by third-party entities in another language must be accompanied by a translation into Portuguese or English, the conformity of which with the original must be duly certified. Documents authored by the candidate that require signature must be signed by means of a qualified electronic signature or another legally admissible means of electronic signature.
- Applications must be addressed to the President of the Council of Representatives of FEUP and submitted through the SIGARRA recruitment module, available at http://www.fe.up.pt/concursos, online reference No. 1504, by 23:59, legal time in mainland Portugal, on 6 September 2026. Only applications effectively submitted by that deadline shall be considered. It is the candidate's responsibility to ensure the full submission of the application and the accompanying documents.
