(Associate of Applied Science), and various Certificates so students have excellent choices for their educational plans.
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Director of THE PRLEA Program/Chief Ranger functions as administrator and faculty within the mission, philosophy, and procedures of CNCC and the policies of the Colorado Community College System (CCCS) for the CNCC Park Ranger Law Enforcement Academy (PRLEA). CNCC operates their PRLEA program in accordance with the requirements of the National Park Service (NPS) requirements through the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC). The Director has authority and responsibility for the development and administration of the program as required by accreditation, federal and/or state agency.
The Director is required to teach within the classroom sufficient to administer the program and provide the resources for a quality learning experience for students by ensuring coherence in the discipline, rigor in the content, and relevance and currency to the practice. Unless otherwise specified, Program Directors are placed on a ten-month contract for the academic year.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Adheres to CNCC, CCCS, State, and Federal policies relating to the job.
- Develop program reviews.
- Manage program review efforts. Make program changes and/or course changes/additions applicable to the program through appropriate processes and within policy.
- Keep current with changes in NPS/FLETC policy and procedures, RM-9/36 CFR/PRLEA syllabus/PEB requirements to ensure program quality and integrity.
- Assist in the development, evaluation, and revision of student admission, progression, retention and graduation policies within the policies of the institution.
- Evaluate faculty within the program in accordance to CNCC’s and FLETC performance evaluation process and recommend professional development when needed.
- Provides support for adjunct instructors to ensure integrity of curriculum at a college level. Assist with training in instructional processes and expectations as needed.
- Evaluate student achievement of curricular objectives and outcomes related to PRLEA knowledge and practice.
- Reviews and submits textbook changes and/or corrections to the master textbook list through appropriate processes and within policy.
- Perform instructor of record duties for instruction.
- Coordinate and lead program accreditation and/or licensure of a federal or state agency.
- Complete student learning assessments.
- Cost center manager for the program budget. Participates in budget process.
- Develop course schedules each term.
- Schedule and conduct Program meetings.
- Schedule and conduct advisory and other required conference meetings.
- Develop and maintains educational agreements.
- Participate in advising and guidance of the students.
- Assist in curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation.
- Create a safe space for interaction and students’ participation in class and discuss different opinions on a given topic.
- Develop and maintain a close working relationship with the NPS Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), basic academy, and other PRLEA Academy Program Managers.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
- Enforce Academy Code of Conduct policy and report to Dean when official disciplinary action is required.
- Hold office hours for, the purpose of, meeting with students to provide individual instruction.
- Participate in graduation, honors, other ceremonies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
This job requires any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, abilities, education, and/or experience as indicated below:
1. Education and Training:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in subject area or equivalent of education and experience.
- Ability to obtain Federal Law Enforcement Training Center certifications as needed to instruct in the NPS Academy.
- Current Valid Driver’s License
Prior Related Experience:
- 10 + years working in NPS and/or related field.
- Teaching experience at the secondary or postsecondary level.
- Familiarity with NPS PRLEA requirements and procedures.
- Training and experience to instruct designated NPS Academy courses.
- Prior law enforcement knowledge, skills and abilities.
Licensure/Certification:
- Minimum of 2 of the following FLETC Instructor Certification: law enforcement instructor training, firearms instructor training, driving instructor training, control tactics instructor training, use of force instructor training, basic tactics instructor training
Equipment Skills:
- Various equipment to do with field of study
- Computer, Appropriate lab equipment
- Telephone/Voice Mail
- Various equipment to do with field of study
Other Qualifications:
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Education and Training:
- Advanced degree in related subject area.
- 3 of the following FLETC Instructor Certifications: law enforcement instructor training, firearms instructor training, driving instructor training, control tactics instructor training
Prior Related Experience:
- 15 + years working in NPS and/or similar field.
- Post-secondary teaching experience.
Licensure/Certification:
- More than 3 of the following FLETC Instructor Certification: law enforcement instructor training, firearms instructor training, driving instructor training, control tactics instructor training, use of force instructor training, basic tactics instructor training
Equipment Skills:
- Desire2Learn and/or Moodle learning management systems.
