Description

The Director of TRIO serves as the administrative focal point for all SSS-Teach activities. The director will be responsible for program compliance, management and recordkeeping.

Administration of the SSS-Teach project is the main responsibility of the director who will manage daily project operations; establish program policies and procedures; hire, train, coordinate, and supervise project staff; train and delegate interventions to peer mentors and tutors; identify, train, and support educators mentors; plan and organize workshops and other professional development for participants; lead case study meetings; assist in directing student interventions; certify the eligibility of project participants; manage the budget, conduct project evaluation, assure project compliance with federal regulations, and prepare and submit annual performance reports.

The director position is a 12-month, full time, grant-funded position.

Examples of Duties

Direct daily operations of the Federal TRIO-Student Support Services-Teach : 70%

  • Oversee program activities serving SSS-Teach eligible students: participant recruitment, assessment, instruction, advisement, tutoring, access to resources and support.
  • Select project participants annually, assuring federal and program eligibility criteria are met; oversee data collection and participant records management.
  • Select, train, supervise, and provide leadership for SSS-Teach professional staff and faculty; conduct team meetings; provide effective and applicable professional development opportunities; meet with staff and faculty on a daily or weekly basis, as needed.
  • Manage the program’s annual budget.
  • Communicate with project participants, university faculty, university administrators, other TRIO professionals, U.S. Department of Education representatives, and other stakeholders.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of personnel and all program elements; assure compliance with federal, state, and university regulations and maintain records demonstrating such.
  • Attend and participate in training and professional conferences for TRIO personnel.

Establish program policies and procedures: 15%

  • Determine policies and procedures to ascertain the needs of participants, define purposes and outcomes to respond to assessed needs, determine services required to meet desired outcomes, and establish an operation and evaluation plan to provide services in an effective and efficient manner
  • Adjudicate issues of concern in light of policy, making sound decisions in the best interest of all parties concerned.

Assure continuation of the project: 10%

  • Assure project objectives are met annually and submit required data through annual performance reports.
  • Lead the writing of a competitive five-year program proposal to obtain continued funding past the current grant period.
  • Secure monies annually to meet project needs by projecting program costs, presenting justifications, and submitting required reports.

Provide department and university service: 5%

  • Attend project, department, and university meetings, providing service to both the department and the university through committee, team, and/or council activities.

Typical Qualifications

Education:

  • Master’s degree in Guidance/Counseling, Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education Administration, Curriculum and Instruction, Elementary or Secondary School Education, or related field.
  • Education may be substituted for experience or experience substituted for education based on the following equivalencies: BA/BS = 4 years; MA/MA = 6 years; PhD = 8 years.

Experience:

  • Two (2) years administrative and/or supervisory experience and/or experience in teaching, developmental education or academic support programs is required.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including first-generation students, low-income students, and students with disabilities preferred.
  • Experience in administration of TRIO programs and/or higher education programs preferred.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data required.
  • Knowledge of grant writing, budget management, and program evaluation preferred.
  • Background as first-generation or low-income student, or student with a disability preferred.

Part-time benefits-eligible positions: Benefits include generous education assistance for the employee.
