DISARC Coordinator - SSP III (Temporary)

About the Position

Please Note: Review of applications will begin on February 11, 2026.

This position is temporary through June 30, 2027, with the possibility of reappointment.

In collaboration with campus partners, the DISARC coordinator provides cultural and personal guidance to students to support their academic advancement; develops, designs, updates, and implements cultural programs, services and training for our specific population of students; completes outreach to expand current services; builds and maintains partnerships with on- and off-campus resources; and gathers feedback and research to implement best practices.

The DISARC Coordinator will also provide work direction to student employees and professional staff members. The DISARC Coordinator provides leadership and guidance to the campus community regarding the specific student population of the center for which they will serve as the direct coordinator. The DISARC Coordinator has responsibilities which include but are not limited to supporting student programs planning, marketing, publicity and measurement of program effectiveness for the department. The DISARC Coordinator will also have a DISARC functional area for which they will serve as the point person for that function for the entire department.

Responsibilities

Staffing Support

  • Provide support to the DISARC Lead Coordinator (SSP IV) in department staffing functions by helping communicate job expectations, monitoring workflow, and contributing to the development and implementation of systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
  • Work in collaboration with the Director and the DISARC Lead Coordinator (SSP IV) to assess staffing needs and support staffing-related planning, referring complex staffing or personnel matters to the Director.
  • In consultation with the Director, recruit, select and hire student assistants.
  • Serve as a resource regarding program policies and procedures.
  • Support the implementation of student staff training structure (including routine meetings and retreats) designed to build leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Coordinate welcome and recognition events for the student leaders.
  • Serve as a secondary point of support for staffing-related operational needs during the temporary absence of the DISARC Lead Coordinator (SSP IV), ensuring continuity of routine operations and referring higher-level staffing decisions and personnel matters to the Director as appropriate.

Center Coordination

  • Provides racial identity development opportunities for affinity/resource center students.
  • Provides leadership development opportunities for affinity/resource center students and staff.
  • Creates and conducts assessments of student services and programs with the goals of assisting affinity/resource center students, enriching their campus experience, and enhancing their academic success.
  • Conducts research of regional and national best practices, as well as gathers feedback from campus community members and students to develop on-going programs to address evolving needs.
  • Collaborates with various campus departments to improve outcomes related to the inclusion, retention, and graduation of affinity/resource center students.
  • Develops, guides, designs, implements, and evaluates effectiveness of programs and services that provide student support, advice and referrals related to various issues and challenges unique to the population of students specific to the affinity/resource center.
  • Develops and implements a communication plan to provide prospective, incoming, and enrolled students of the affinity/resource center with timely information on programs, resources, opportunities, events, activities, important deadlines, and academic and co-curricular enrichment opportunities.
  • Oversees the preparation of data, progress, and analytical reports as requested by the appropriate administrator.
  • Seeks and composes grants for external funding and supports other fundraising efforts.
  • Develops and maintains the website and other materials to provide current and timely information to affinity/resource center students, their families, and allies.
  • In conjunction with the appropriate administrator, oversees and maintains the budget for operating expenses for the affinity/resource center.
  • Provides direction to volunteers and student staff, as needed.

Programming

  • Oversees the creation and organization of programs and services in support of the academic success, retention, and graduation of cultural student populations, particularly those who come from underserved backgrounds and/or affiliated with the DISARC.
  • Establishes a community among affinity/resource center students by offering an ongoing program of activities to increase student contact, involvement, achievement, and overall satisfaction.
  • Coordinates and/or provides appropriate cultural diversity and inclusion training sessions, workshops, and resources for students.
  • Identifies, cultivates, and maintains relationships with local, regional, and national resources and organizations to establish a network of programs, services, and referrals in support of students that engage in the affinity/resource center.
  • Represents university at both on- and off-campus events for cultural and affinity students.

Department Support

  • Provides programmatic support for the student groups/identities supported by the DISARC.
  • Steers department efforts in functional areas (student staff training; student staff selection; departmental marketing, departmental coordination; assessment efforts; etc.).
  • Provides support and ensures execution of major department-sponsored cultural programs for the campus community (Tunnel of Oppression, coming out day; etc.).
  • Assist at annual University events which could occur on a weekend or evening, e.g. Preview Day, Welcome Day, Education Summit, etc. as assigned.
  • Serve on project teams and recruitment committees.
  • Participate in department task forces and committees as designated.
  • Attends conferences and keeps abreast of new developments in issues addressing diverse cultural students, access and equity programs that serve this population.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior.
  • General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field as well as general knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned.
  • General knowledge of individual counseling techniques.
  • General knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge, of the organizational procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned.
  • Working knowledge of student services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action.
  • Advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters.
  • Determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature.
  • Interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations, analyze and define the problem, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action.
  • Carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals.

Experience

  • Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience.
  • One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required.
  • A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
  • A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.

Education

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in student affairs, equity and inclusion and/or related field(s).
  • Experience and ability to work with a diverse student and campus population.
  • Experience advising and developing students.
  • Ability to work independently and represent the department at designated university functions.
  • Ability to interpret federal, state, and university policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and through the use of various technologies including the web and social networking platforms.
  • Ability to work with web-based programs and applications for communication, data gathering and analysis.
  • Ability to establish a cooperative working relationship with students, campus departments, and the public.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with multiple deadlines and objectives.
  • Ability to produce and maintain extremely visible programs with political sensitivity.
  • Ability to work with constant interruptions in a somewhat noisy environment.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as required.
  • Excellent delegation skills and the ability to provide direction, train, evaluate and provide feedback regarding professional and student staff.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge

  • Master’s Degree in Higher Education or related field.
  • 3 years of experience in campus life, student leadership, diversity or identity-based centers, advising, or student support services is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of student leadership development issues including policies, procedures and practices to produce educationally and philosophically sound programs.
  • Working knowledge of student development theory and research.
  • Ability to research and apply research in related topics.
  • Ability to employ positive advisement and counseling skills.
  • Ability to act and use excellent judgment in a fast paced, service-oriented daily operation.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Salary and Benefits

Salary Range: $5,540.00 per month to $7,893.00 per month. PLEASE NOTE: The starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $5,540.00 per month to $6,716.00 per month.
