Division Chief; Associate or Full; Tenure or Clinician Educator Track; Pediatric Human Genetics

Description

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Division of Human Genetics in the Department of Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in either the non-tenure clinician educator track or the tenure track. Applicants must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree. ACMG-certification preferred.

Teaching responsibilities may include medical students, residents, fellows, genetic counselors, and APPs within the outpatient and inpatient clinical settings, and delivering clinical lectures to trainees. The Division has responsibilities for training large numbers of medical students, residents, fellows, and genetic counseling students. Educating the next generation of geneticists and genetic counselors is a priority of the Division.

Clinical responsibilities may include inpatient or outpatient services at CHOP’s Main campus and other sites. The Division leads multiple outpatient clinical programs, including 13 programs (9 subspecialty clinics and 4 sections), providing care in over 7,500 outpatient encounters per year. Multispecialty programs within the Division include clinical experts in genetics, pediatrics, psychology, oncology, endocrinology, cardiology, pathology, among other disciplines, who are frequently partnered with leaders in associated research fields.

The Division has a strong inpatient presence at the Main CHOP Hospital Campus in Philadelphia with three consultative services (mitochondrial medicine, metabolism, and clinical genetics) and a primary metabolism inpatient service. The Division also maintains virtual consultative services at the new CHOP community-based hospital in King of Prussia and external hospitals. Numerous inpatient attendings provide primary and consultative care for over 2,500 inpatient encounters per year.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include collaborating with faculty across subspecialties to identify and understand the genetic basis of pediatric disease, discover the natural history of genetic diseases from birth through childhood and into adulthood, and develop and facilitate novel therapeutic approaches to genetic disease, while recognizing issues regarding health equity among underserved communities.

The Division encompasses a well-funded research enterprise, including basic science, translational, clinical and health services research programs and spanning all areas of the field. Areas of research focus include Mitochondrial Medicine, Gene Therapy, Center for Applied Genomics, Beckwith Wiedemann syndrome, 22q, and others. The next Division Chief will lead a large group of investigators, supporting their research endeavors through advocacy, mentorship, and development of philanthropic partnerships.

The Division Chief reports to the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and works closely with the other Division Chiefs, the Associate Chairs, and the Vice Chair in the Department of Pediatrics. The Division Chief will oversee the clinical, research, and educational activities of the Division, lead recruiting efforts in the Division, and ensure career mentoring for all faculty and fellows in the Division.
