- Demonstrated excellence in academic performance
- Strong mathematical background (including multivariate calculus and linear algebra, with knowledge of higher-level math such as graph theory and differential equations a plus)
- Previous programming experience (in languages such as R, Matlab, Python, or Stata, with knowledge of GIS a plus), as gained through past coursework, past independent research, past work experience, or past research experience
- Demonstrated ability to work well independently
- Attention to detail

- Excellent writing and oral communication skills
- A long-term interest in pursuing a Ph.D. in economics

Description:
The Michael G. Fisch 1983 Academic Cluster on Globalization at Dartmouth College invites applications for an Economics Research Specialist, at the rank of postgraduate research associate, to work for one year on topics related to globalization with Professor Treb Allen. The position is made possible by the endowed funds of the Globalization Cluster, which seeks to promote scholarship on the far-reaching repercussions of globalization on world markets, governments, trade, and society. Applicants should have a strong quantitative background and an enthusiastic interest in applying this background to the evaluation and design of better economic policy.
Responsibilities include:
- Assisting Globalization Cluster faculty with research, including processing and analyzing large datasets and coding necessary to implement related economic models.
- Taking Dartmouth courses to prepare for graduate school.
- Participating in weekly internal and external seminars of the Globalization Cluster.
- Administrative support for Globalization Cluster, including updating the cluster website and helping to coordinate the seminars.
Economics Research Specialists (ERSs) work with department faculty supporting and conducting scholarly research and teaching in anticipation of advancing their skills and experience to prepare for the next stage of their careers. ERSs are expected to contribute to all stages of research - including research design, literature searches, conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing data and writing reports and papers. ERSs may also have the opportunity to contribute in the classroom or in laboratory sections of courses, helping undergraduate students with labs, review sessions, paper editing and grading certain assignments.
This position is full-time, non-remote, in the Department of Economics at Dartmouth College with a start date as early as July 1, 2026. Appointments are typically for a 1-year period with the option of a 1-year extension, pending funding and performance. The salary is $60,000 per year.
ERSs who are working in residence in Hanover are eligible for Graduate Special Student status and the ability to take certain Dartmouth courses with the tuition paid by Dartmouth as a working condition fringe benefit. The benefit covers a maximum of 1 course per academic year the ERS is employed at the College.
