The University of Illinois Counseling Center is hiring one or more embedded clinical counselors. These positions will be embedded in academic and student affairs units. Successful candidates will have solid experience and expertise in serving college student populations. There are openings for embedded counselors who are generalists.

Job Summary
Serve as a generalist and establish and maintain a presence of Counseling Center services within the academic/student affairs unit. Provide clinical services to students as well as provide outreach, prevention and consultation services within the unit. Work comfortably both individually and as a team member in providing effective outreach and prevention programs in multiple campus locations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide time-limited counseling services for students enrolled in the college.
- Provide outreach, prevention and consultation services for the college community.
- Network and liaise with administration, faculty and staff within the college and advocate for students and their needs as appropriate.
- Create and implement targeted prevention programming for students.
- Provide group counseling services through a general therapy group or a group that addresses a specific clinical issue or the needs of a particular population of students.
- Manage clinical crises for students enrolled in the college.
- Participate in psychological emergency and trauma responses.
- Participate in various Student Affairs activities and committees.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- For clinicians having a terminal master's level degree the following is required: master's degree in social work, counseling or psychology.
- For clinicians having a terminal doctoral degree the following is required: doctorate in clinical psychology, clinical/community psychology, counseling psychology, or related field.
- Degree completed by start date is required.
Licensure
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Illinois or license state-transfer eligible background is required for master's degree.
- Licensed in Illinois or license state-transfer as psychologist required for candidates with doctoral degree.
- Licensed for at least 2 years at time of application is required for embedded counselor positions.
- No other licensure will be considered.
Experience
- Demonstrated experience functioning at a high level as a generalist.
Preferred Qualifications
- Interest, expertise, and experience in clinical or outreach work in an area of special emphasis and/or training/supervision.
- Experience in a college counseling center.
- Interest, expertise, and experience in clinical or outreach work in an area of special emphasis.
- Experience with triage/crisis intervention.
- Preference will be given to candidates of any/all backgrounds who have demonstrated experience and competence serving relevant clinical populations, including but not limited to Asian and Asian International student populations, Middle East and North Africa (MENA) student populations, or Native and Indigenous populations.
- Experience and ideas that embrace and value inclusion and belonging.
- Fluency in a second language, especially Mandarin or Korean.
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 7/1/2026. Starting salary range is $70,000-$80,000 and will be commensurate based on education and experience.
This position is eligible for sponsorship for work authorization, except for sponsorship of a new H1B position that would incur the $100,000 fee.
