Position Information:
Reporting to the Director of Employee and Labor Relations, the Employee Relations Representative is an experienced professional who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the Employee Relations field. This role will provide support related to employee relations issues and employee engagement efforts and projects in support of a high performance workplace. Internal and external contacts often pertain to significant employee relations programs and objectives. Advises supervisors regarding employee performance management and corrective actions, including discipline and dismissal actions, conduct of investigations and management of complaints and grievances. Normally, works on assignments with limited oversight. Works on employee and labor relations matters that are the diverse and complex in scope and where analysis of data and situations requires evaluation of many factors and implications with broad impact on the organization.

The full salary range for the Employee Relations Analyst is $75,900 - $137,300 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $135,000 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.
Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.
As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.
Requirements:
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required
- JD or Master's degree in related area. Preferred
Experience Requirements
- 4 - 7 years of related experience. Required
- Experience conducting complex workplace investigations Preferred
- Professional experience performing employee relations activities in higher education Preferred
Certification Requirements
- Society for Human Resources Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) Preferred
- Professional in Human Resources Certificate (PHR) Preferred
Special Conditions
- Valid drive license will be required if operating personal or university vehicle for university related business. Required
Minimum Requirements
- Organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Has thorough knowledge of other areas of HR.
- Has in-depth knowledge of organizational policies and procedures; knowledge of functional area and understands how work impacts other areas.
- Thorough knowledge of employee relations practices and programs.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
- Thorough knowledge of union/labor contracts.
- Has skills associated with conflict resolution.
- Applies employee relation-specific concepts and skills.
- Provides employee relations related support to assigned client groups.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to handle very difficult or volatile situations/individuals effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of UC policies and procedures
Key Responsibilities:
- Works in a collaborative manner with others across the organization on such issues as performance management, organizational changes, work place climate and other related areas.
