Job Summary:

The Endourology and Stone Disease Fellowship prepares urologists for careers in academic or private practice by providing comprehensive clinical, surgical, and research training. Fellows gain experience at CU Anschutz Medical Campus and affiliated hospitals under the guidance of dedicated faculty.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clinical and Surgical Training:
    • Endoscopic stone surgery: cystoscopy, ureteroscopy, percutaneous nephrolithotomy, cystolitholapaxy
    • Endoscopic BPH surgery: holmium laser enucleation of the prostate
    • Laparoscopic and robotic kidney procedures: nephrectomy, cyst decortication
    • Urinary diversion and reconstructive techniques
    • Pre- and post-operative patient management
  • Didactic and Skills Training:
    • Orientation and structured educational sessions
    • Simulation and skill labs
    • Case presentations and weekly lectures
  • Professional Development and Research:
    • Critically review and evaluate new research
    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives
    • Present at national meetings and produce manuscripts
    • Develop communication, teamwork, and leadership skills
  • Patient Care Skills:
    • Perform general and disease-specific history and physical exams
    • Order and interpret radiologic studies, ultrasound, and fluoroscopic imaging
    • Counsel patients and obtain informed consent
    • Manage surgical complications and complex clinical decision-making

By integrating clinical experience, operative training, and research, the fellowship ensures graduates are prepared for independent practice and leadership in Endourology.

Work Location:
Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Program Goals:
The goals of the Endourology Fellowship are to provide comprehensive clinical, operative, and research training that enables the fellow to:

  • Develop expertise in the full spectrum of endourologic procedures, including stone disease, endoscopic surgery, and minimally invasive interventions.
  • Function independently and confidently in complex operative and patient care settings.
  • Participate actively in multidisciplinary care teams, demonstrating leadership, professionalism, and evidence-based clinical decision-making.
  • Engage in research, quality improvement, and educational initiatives to advance the field of endourology and contribute to scholarly activity.
  • Graduate as a highly skilled, knowledgeable, and autonomous endourologist ready to deliver exceptional patient care and contribute meaningfully to the urologic community.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Eligibility for full, unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Colorado
  • Successful completion of all three steps of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE)
  • Graduation from an ACGME-accredited Urology residency program in the United States
  • Board eligible in Urology (American Board of Urology), with the expectation of achieving board certification within the required timeframe
