The Energy Management Department, part of Campus Operations & Maintenance within the Facilities Division, is committed to optimizing energy and water use across campus to create a sustainable, efficient, and cost-effective environment. Guided by our Strategic Energy Management Plan, we implement innovative solutions that reduce energy consumption, enhance operational performance, and ensure compliance with legislative mandates.

We are seeking a highly motivated Energy Engineer to support campus-wide energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives. This role evaluates building and central utility system performance, develops energy conservation measures (ECMs), and collaborates with campus partners to implement impactful improvements.

This position blends hands-on system optimization with data-driven analysis, capital project integration, and strategic planning. It is ideal for engineers with experience in building HVAC systems and/or central utility plant efficiency who are eager to expand their technical expertise within a dynamic campus energy management environment. If you are passionate about energy efficiency, systems optimization, and driving meaningful change, we invite you to apply and be part of our mission to power a more sustainable campus.

Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct energy audits in accordance with ANSI/ASHRAE/ACCA Standard 211 in collaboration with the Energy Data Analyst and Campus Operations & Maintenance teams.
  • Analyze audit findings and system performance data to identify and recommend Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) for buildings and central utility systems.
  • Perform detailed financial analyses, including cost estimation, projected savings, return on investment (ROI), and payback calculations.
  • Develop comprehensive project scopes and technical justifications to support capital planning approval and funding requests.
  • Monitor, analyze, and troubleshoot HVAC systems using Schneider Electric Struxureware and Johnson Controls Metasys, and oversee central utilities performance via Iconics Genesis 32 HMI.
  • Optimize chilled water systems, steam distribution networks, load balancing strategies, and pumping efficiency within central utility infrastructure.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and implement corrective actions in collaboration with Maintenance and Utilities teams.
  • Translate complex technical data into clear, actionable reports and presentations for technical teams and university leadership.
  • Integrate energy efficiency standards and sustainability objectives into capital project designs and renovation initiatives.
  • Establish and support energy performance targets, including Energy Use Intensity (EUI) benchmarks, energy modeling requirements, and commissioning standards.
  • Lead campus-wide initiatives, including ECO-Mode implementation, smart scheduling optimization, laboratory efficiency improvements, and retro-commissioning (RCx) programs.
  • Develop, implement, and support institutional energy policies, including temperature setpoints, ventilation standards, and technical design specifications.

Other Work/Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration between Energy Management and the other units within the Facilities division.
  • Support the development of campus energy management standards, design guidelines, and technical specifications to ensure consistency across projects.
  • Support development and implementation of institutional energy policies (e.g., temperature setpoint standards, after-hours HVAC policies, lab ventilation standards).
  • Participate in strategic energy reduction planning.
  • Identify and evaluate emerging technologies for campus application.

Minimum Experience/Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in the Engineering discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
