WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Cuyamaca College is a small, community-centered college committed to equity, excellence, and social justice. We invite applications for a full-time tenure-track Engineering Professor to join our Engineering Department. This position focuses on providing high-quality education in engineering, supporting student pathways and transfer in Engineering, and fostering a learning environment centered on equity and inclusion.

The ideal candidate will teach lecture and laboratory engineering courses, including introductory and major-level classes, with enthusiasm and a commitment to inclusive, student-centered pedagogy. They will lead curriculum development efforts, integrating culturally relevant materials and equity-focused strategies to close achievement gaps and promote student success. In addition, the successful candidate will have responsibility for helping to maintain and grow the state-of-the-art Engineering program for the Engineering & Physical Sciences department, and will include development, implementation and articulation of curriculum, and development of facilities. This role will directly impact students' success and transferability to a university as well as their access to high-demand careers in all areas of engineering.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under administrative leadership, it is the responsibility of the regular/contract college instructor to participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs, courses, and other experiences that will directly result in the educational growth of the students and support advancement of the visions, missions, and values of the colleges and District.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's in any field of engineering OR

Bachelor's in any field of engineering AND Master's in mathematics, physics, computer science, chemistry, or geology OR

Bachelor's in any field of engineering AND a professional engineer's license OR The equivalent.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to teach and develop curriculum in at least four core engineering areas, such as: Statics, Dynamics, Electric Circuits, Mechatronics, Materials, Engineering Graphics, Computer Applications (MATLAB), Digital Design, Introduction to Engineering.
• Demonstrated experience teaching (high school, community college, university, teaching assistant, formal or informal industry training/presenting) engineering concepts using active, student-centered, and collaborative learning environments.
• Ability to design and maintain hands-on, inquiry-based lab exercises in collaboration with lab technicians and colleagues, incorporating modern engineering equipment (e.g., microcontrollers, 3D printers, CAD software, CNC machines, oscilloscopes, material testing equipment).
• Ability to create culturally relevant, equity-minded curricula responsive to first-generation college students and students from historically underrepresented groups in STEM.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion, and diversity, with sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, language, ability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.
• Strong oral and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues and support departmental and institutional goals.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience teaching transfer-level engineering courses in multiple modalities (in-person, online, hybrid, HyFlex).
• Ability to implement innovative, student-centered teaching strategies aimed at improving retention and success rates, particularly for students from underrepresented groups in STEM.
• Familiarity with work-based learning strategies and fostering partnerships with local industry or community organizations.
• Participation in professional development activities related to equity, diversity, and inclusion in higher education.
• Proficiency in developing interdisciplinary approaches that connect engineering to broader contexts, such as environmental sustainability, health equity, social justice, or other STEM disciplines.
• Experience using or willingness to adopt current instructional technologies, including low-cost or zero-cost (open educational) resources and AI literacy practices to advance student access and success in an educational environment.
• Ability to advise and mentor students on academic and career pathways in engineering programs, including activities such as club sponsorship, supervision of independent projects, and development of workshops to better prepare students for academic success.
• Demonstrated desire to support overall growth and success of both the engineering discipline and the Engineering & Physical Sciences Department, including preparation and implementation of operational, planning, growth, and budgetary strategies.
