North Hennepin Community College, one of the largest and most diverse two-year colleges in Minnesota, is accepting applications for two (2) full-time, unlimited English faculty.

The English Department is home to composition and literature, as well as the Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) in Creative Writing program. The department’s student literary journal, Under Construction, has received numerous national and regional awards from the Community College Humanities Association. Responsibilities:

  • Primary teaching responsibilities include college-level composition courses. Other courses, including literature and creative writing, may be a part of the teaching load.
  • Communication and collaboration with other departmental faculty and staff as essential for the ongoing development of the English department’s mission and objectives.
  • Service to the department and college and continued professional development.
  • Dedication to excellence in teaching and being part of a creative, vibrant, student-centered learning community.
  • The development of student-centered pedagogy, including learner outcome assessments and online instruction that includes regular and substantive interactions with students.
  • Availability to teach classes on campus as well as at off-campus sites and meet during daytime hours, in the evenings, on weekends, and online.
  • Participation in departmental and campus-wide discourse and collaboration to enhance disciplines, promote interdisciplinary discourse and collaboration, and advance the college mission.
  • The ability to be culturally responsive, adaptable, and inclusive to support diverse and intersectional student populations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree with a major in English or a Master's degree with a minimum of eighteen (18) graduate semester credits (27 graduate quarter credits) in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of current composition pedagogy and learner outcomes assessment (both individual course and departmental).
  • Commitment to teaching in the English Department’s open-access program.
  • Experience and demonstrated effectiveness in teaching first and second-year undergraduate college writing courses, which may also include literature and creative writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to educate a diverse and intersectional student population, including adult learners, students of color, students who identify as LGBTQIA+, students with disabilities, students of varied economic backgrounds, and international students.
  • Working knowledge of alternative instructional techniques including teaching blended/hybrid and accelerated classes.
  • Flexibility to teach up to five days a week: daytime, evening, or weekend sections.
  • Availability to participate in campus life and community (committees, curriculum development, program review, graduation, department meetings, etc.).

  • Applicants with degrees from non-U.S. educational institutions or programs will need to submit a foreign credentials evaluation (FCE) as a condition of hire.

Salary Range:

Salary is commensurate with education and experience and is determined by the salary placement process as outlined in the bargaining unit agreement. Entry-level range is $51,303 - $94,542 for a nine-month academic year, plus excellent benefits.

Full-time, unlimited faculty work 171 days during a nine-month academic year and receive excellent benefits, including health insurance (95% employer paid single premium or 90% employer paid family premium); life insurance; optional dental, short-and long-term disability and long-term care insurance; paid personal and sick leave; defined benefits and defined contribution (401(a) retirement plans); tuition waiver for employees and dependents; and optional 457 and 403(b) retirement savings plans.

Under the collective bargaining agreement with the Minnesota State College Faculty (MSCF), new faculty to the system receive a salary placement based on education and related experience after accepting a job offer. The maximum salary at hire is $94,542 per academic year, depending on education and experience.
