English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Instructor
The Office of the Dean of the Conservatory at Oberlin Conservatory of Music invites applications for a full-time Instructor position in the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program. This position is available immediately for the 2025–2026 academic year, with the possibility of renewal, and reports directly to the Director of the ESOL Program.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and deliver lesson plans aligned with curricular goals
- Teach integrated courses in reading, writing, grammar, listening, and speaking for academic and artistic purposes
- Provide 3–5 hours of weekly office hours to support students individually and in small groups
- Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments and make placement or course recommendations
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance
- Use course management and multimedia tools, including Blackboard, to support instruction
- Participate in regular ESOL team meetings and professional development
- Assist in maintaining and organizing accreditation documentation and contribute to the preparation of reports for the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA)
- Collaborate with faculty and staff across the Conservatory to support student success and language integration
Required qualifications:
- M.A. or M.Ed. in TESOL, TEFL, TESL, Applied Linguistics, English, or a related field
- Two to five years of experience teaching adult English Language Learners, preferably in a college or university setting
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff across cultures
- Experience using course management systems (e.g., Blackboard) and integrating technology into instruction
- Familiarity with accreditation processes or willingness to learn
- International experience and experience learning another language are strongly preferred
