DESCRIPTION
Mendocino-Lake Community College District is seeking a full-time, tenure-track instructor to join our collegial and collaborative community of faculty, staff, and students, and a dynamic and friendly English department. This position will be located at the main campus in Ukiah and teach primarily in Ukiah, at our North County Center (Willits), and online.
The English department serves all degree-seeking and English-for-transfer students. The department serves all campus centers (satellite locations), many high schools in the district and, offers courses online.
The English department has worked diligently to create curriculum and instructional practices to address the changes required by AB705 and AB1705. We seek applicants who share our commitment to meeting students where they are and supporting them in their academic development.

ASSIGNMENT
This is a full-time, tenure-track position. The annual teaching load is 510 lecture hours, 680 lab hours, or a combination of the above. The annual work year includes 166 instructional days and nine professional development/flex days. The start date for this position will be August 14, 2026. This assignment may include day, evening, and weekend classes, as well as travel to, and instruction at, off-campus centers within the District.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Compensation is dependent on education and experience.
Annual salary offered at $76,131 - $106,206. Step seven (7) is the maximum step placement based on year for year teaching experience or two years of FTE work experience in the field per step.

Benefits: We offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes family medical, dental, vision, EAP benefits and employee life insurance with no monthly premium contribution from faculty members. Additional voluntary life insurance is available for employee purchase. Benefits are effective at the first of the month following hire date.
Paid Time Off: The successful candidate will earn ten (10) days of sick leave per year.
Retirement: This position is eligible for CalSTRS Retirement. Additional, voluntary 403(b) programs are available.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
The successful candidate will support success by providing instructional support and institutional collaboration. This includes the following duties and/or assignments:
TEACHING:
- Instructs transfer level English composition, critical thinking, literature, creative writing, and other courses per department needs; instructs in our Reading and Writing Lab; participates in program and curriculum development and revision and program review.
- Provides instruction in accordance with the course outline and schedule of classes; prepares a syllabus for each class to inform students about the course objectives, grading plan, assignments, and attendance requirements; develops, maintains, and assesses student learning outcomes; evaluates students' performance; provides students with timely feedback; submits grades and attendance reports.
- Posts and maintains office hours; develops and maintains current curriculum materials and course outlines; recommends course scheduling; selects textbooks and instructional materials; recommends library selections; conducts faculty evaluations; advises part-time faculty.
DEPARTMENT:
- Attends department meetings;
- Participates in program development, review, and revision;
- Participates in curriculum development, review, modification, and deletion;
- Develops and assesses student learning outcomes in the discipline;
- Participates in full-time and part-time faculty evaluations;
- Provides input and assistance to the Dean regarding the schedule of classes, schedule changes, and the recruitment and assignment of part-time faculty in the discipline;
- Collaborates with the campus centers concerning classes in the discipline; serves as a liaison with local dual enrollment schools and the community.
INSTITUTIONAL:
- Reports prepared and on time for meetings; attends in-service days, commencements, and faculty meetings as scheduled;
- Completes required flex hours for professional development purposes; serves on college committees;
- Participates in the processes of shared governance;
- Participates in activities to create and promote career pathways and explore job opportunities, including articulation with local high schools and four-year institutions.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must meet Human Resources guidelines for qualified hiring; including but not limited to a Live Scan background check and completion of TB Test.
Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, geographic and ethnic backgrounds of students, staff, and faculty.
EDUCATION QUALIFICATION:
Master's in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition
OR Bachelor's in any of the above
AND Master's in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing or journalism
OR the equivalent
