Environmental Law Writer

Position Summary

The Sabin Center for Climate Change Law seeks an Environmental Law Writer to take the lead in managing our online resources, including the US Climate Litigation Database, and contribute to various publications. The incumbent will be responsible for co-authoring several periodic newsletters and guides produced by the Sabin Center and assist with editing other Sabin Center reports and publications. This position reports to the Center’s Faculty Director and Executive Director.

Responsibilities

  • Writes the monthly Sabin Center newsletter. 3%
  • Locates and summarizes all US climate litigation cases. 25%
  • Updates and maintains the US climate litigation chart. 15%
  • Assist in editing Sabin Center publications. 5%
  • Prepare triannual updates to the Environmental Law Practice guide, published by LexisNexis. 7%
  • Prepares annual updates to the Environmental Impact Review in New York, published by LexisNexis. 3%
  • Edits the monthly newsletter “Environmental Law in New York” newsletter, published by LexisNexis, including researching and monitoring developments to identify cases and other updates to cover in each issue. 30%
  • Assists in the preparation of Prof. Gerrard’s bi-monthly environmental law column for the New York Law Journal. 2%
  • Develop and contribute to reports, presentations and webinars for a variety of audiences for the Sabin Center. 10%
  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • J.D. or equivalent legal degree plus at least 5 years of professional experience, preferably with a government agency (including through a clerkship), NGO, law firm, law school center, or legal publisher.
  • Experience with legal research and writing, and preferably a track record of legal publications
  • Demonstrated interest in climate change, environmental, natural resources, and/or energy law and policy
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a clear commitment to a collaborative working environment
  • Must be able to work with diverse constituencies and support an inclusive work environment.

Salary Range: $92,700 - $92,700

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
