Equipment and Supply Technician
Position Summary
At the Stony Brook Medicine, the Equipment and Supply Technician will be a valuable member of our team in the Cancer Center. Qualified candidates should demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, organizational and time management skills. They should have attention to detail and be able to work with all levels of the organization.
Duties of an Equipment and Supply Technician include the following but are not limited to:
- Ordering, stocking and distributing supplies.
- Maintaining inventory.
- Keeping concise records of equipment.
- Act as liaison to other departments (CSS, Distribution, Lawson, outside vendors).
- Assist in capital budget preparation for equipment.
- Clean, prepare, and distribute equipment.
- Keeps track of preventive maintenance schedules, and performs billing procedures as needed.
- Establishes and maintains a good professional rapport with the medical staff, nurses, and staff of patient care areas and all other applicable departments and units.
- Reviews and makes the appropriate recommendations in reference to all new supplies and equipment for the unit.
- Develops, schedules, conducts and documents in-services in instrumentation handling and continuing education programs for the personnel of the unit.
- Meets or exceeds standards of compliance of all the accreditation and regulatory bodies and commissions in relationship to supply, processing and sterilization.
- Attends staff meetings and conferences at the supervisor's discretion.
- Develops and requires strict adherence to maximum quality control processing standards.
- Aids in the evaluation process of products and instruments to be current in the state of the art as well as assessing for cost effective measures to perform procedures.
- Researches obsolete and discontinued instrumentation for replacement.
- Responsible for instrumentation and medical/surgical supplies.
- Performs additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor/Manager.
- Must attend annually at least one educational offering in material or personnel management, infection control, or on programs related to sterile processing technology.
- Adheres to all hospital and departmental policies and procedures as applicable while simultaneously reprocessing scopes and catheters using manufacturer's guidelines.
- Maintains available inventory of clean scopes/catheters. Document scope damage, arrange for scope repairs and scope loaners as needed.
- Procedure room and equipment set up and room turnover of the procedural field and surrounding equipment. Maintain inventory PARS of procedure room supplies, rotate stock and monitor expiration dates. Coordinates returning dirty supplies to Central Sterile Support that require sterilization, assuring return and availability for next day procedures. Pick up procedural supplies from various hospital locations as needed.
- Maintain inventory of reprocessing supplies and chemicals. Assist in maintaining and cleaning, and storing of equipment when not in use. Assist in establishing and implementing quality assurance in point of care processing of equipment.
- Assist in cleaning, restocking and re-configuring the procedure room between procedures and at the completion of the schedules.
- Tests operational efficiency of equipment and report problems to the Clinician or Nurse Manager.
- Assists in restocking storage and equipment supply areas.
- Communicates instrumentation needs to CSS.
- Assist in preparation of equipment for special procedures.
Qualifications
Required: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
Preferred: Experience with high level disinfection process. Lawson experience. Outpatient surgical and medical procedure set-up/cleaning experience. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Prior experience with purchasing, inventory control, medical equipment troubleshooting.

Anticipated Pay Range
The salary range (or hiring range) for this position is $61,550 - $71,101 Base
The above salary range represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate's validated years of comparable experience. Any efforts to inflate or misrepresent experience are grounds for disqualification from the application process or termination of employment if hired.
Some positions offer annual supplemental pay such as:
- Location pay for UUP, CSEA & PEF full-time positions ($4000)
