We're currently searching for a Esports Manager to join our Recreational Sports team in Blacksburg, VA to help us in our mission. HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE ROLE:

1. You'll be part of the Recreational Sports department, a collaborative and student-centered organization committed to enhancing wellbeing, physical activity, sport, and fitness through high-quality facilities, programs, and experiences for the campus community.
2. You'll be reporting to the Associate Director for Recreational Sports, in a regular twelve-month, 100% staff appointment.
3. You'll provide strategic leadership and day-to-day management for the VT Rec Sports Esports Center, which includes competitive and social gaming opportunities. Operations include team management, media, scheduling, facility coordination, equipment maintenance, and policy management. This role will also manage the program budget, allocate resources strategically, and monitor expenditures to ensure fiscal responsibility and sustainability.
4. You'll be the primary liaison between Student Affairs IT, ggCircuit management services, and Rec Sports to ensure the gaming support and technical systems perform and operate successfully and work collaboratively with university stakeholders to deliver services grounded in strategic planning, goal setting, and assessment to ensure high-quality experiences, effective resource use, and continuous improvement aligned with departmental and university priorities.
5. You'll supervise a team of part-time, student wage staff providing direction, training, evaluation, scheduling, and mentorship to support student development and operational excellence.
6. You'll have the chance to grow and take advantage of a developmental plan with opportunities to advance within the Department and the Division.
7. You'll be offered a base compensation package between $50,000 - $55,000, along with a comprehensive benefits package which includes health insurance, paid leave, retirement, tuition assistance, VT discounts, and so much more!

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Recreation Management, Business Administration, Esports Management, Information Systems/Technology, Communications or related field
• Demonstrated working knowledge of esports systems, competitive gaming platforms and current industry trends
• Previous experience in event coordination (preferably in esports or gaming-related environments - gaming events, tournaments, leagues, etc)
• Technical proficiency with PC hardware and software, gaming hardware, network infrastructure, network optimization for gaming and troubleshooting peripherals
• Strong customer service orientation with the ability to interact effectively with students and stakeholders
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
• Competency with facility management and scheduling software
• Willingness to work non-traditional hours
• Passion for gaming and esports coupled with professional maturity
• Evidence of initiative, adaptability, and creative problem-solving
• Commitment to student success, wellbeing, and a values-driven workplace

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supervising employees
• Ability to develop and manage budgets and engage in fiscal planning
• Direct experience in competitive esports operations, live event production (broadcasting), or streaming (e.g., Twitch, OBS, vMix)
• Existing relationships with collegiate esports leagues or industry partners

Pay Band 4

Overtime Status Exempt: Not eligible for overtime

Appointment Type Regular

Salary Information $50,000 - $55,000

Work Schedule Monday - Friday 10:00 am - 7:00 pm with periodic evening and weekend hours
