Summary of Position
Red Rocks Community College seeks a collaborative and organized Events Coordinator to support the planning, coordination, and delivery of College-sponsored and community events. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Administrative Services, this position serves as a central liaison and operational lead, partnering with event sponsors, campus departments, and external vendors to align people, space, technology, and services to deliver accessible, engaging, and well-coordinated event experiences.
This role coordinates operational resources across facilities, audio-visual, IT, space and room reservations, Marketing and Communications, and Campus Police to ensure integrated support plans and provides hands-on, on-site coordination during events. The Events Coordinator supports both internal programming and external community use of College facilities while strengthening partnerships, facilitating clear and timely communication, and advancing efficient, effective, and customer-focused event planning and execution processes.
This position is new to the College and plays a key role in helping transition event planning from a decentralized approach to a more coordinated model. The role partners closely with stakeholders across campuses to build planning tools, workflows, and communication pathways that support collaboration and contribute to a positive event planning and execution experience. Success in this role requires strong partnerships, interpersonal effectiveness, initiative, creativity, and the ability to navigate complex logistics while maintaining a high level of coordination and responsiveness.
This position routinely supports events held during evenings and weekends across all RRCC campuses. Work hours are flexed within the standard Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM schedule to accommodate event coverage and operational needs. Travel between campuses is required.
A successful candidate has a wide range of event coordination experience and is at ease with the following:
- Cross-Functional Partnership & Relationship Building: Builds trust and collaborates effectively with event sponsors, campus departments, leadership, vendors, and community partners. Aligns expectations, navigates varying needs, and ensures services from multiple areas come together seamlessly to support event success.
- Organizational & Operational Coordination Excellence: Coordinates multiple events, timelines, and service providers simultaneously. Tracks details, anticipates needs, and ensures logistics such as space, technology, security, and vendor services are aligned and delivered effectively.
- Initiative, Creativity & Problem-Solving: Approaches event planning with resourcefulness and innovation. Identifies opportunities to improve processes, enhances participant experience, and responds calmly and effectively to real-time event needs or challenges.
Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of event planning, coordination, and logistical best practices, including budgeting, scheduling, resource management, space utilization, and event documentation.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple events, timelines, stakeholders, and priorities simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to engage effectively with internal partners, vendors, community organizations, leadership, and diverse audiences.
- Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, including the ability to anticipate issues, adapt to changing circumstances, and identify practical solutions throughout event planning and execution.
- Ability to assess event effectiveness, apply feedback for continuous improvement, and contribute creative ideas to enhance event experiences and coordination processes.
- Proficiency in technology systems and software that support event planning, coordination, scheduling, communication, and documentation, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by event schedules.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.
- At least two years of progressively responsible professional-level experience in event planning, coordination, community relations, or a closely related area, including demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize competing demands, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in event planning, coordination, community relations, or related area in an educational, public sector, or non-profit environment.
- Experience working with or knowledge of higher education institutions, particularly community colleges.
- Knowledge of purchasing, contracting, and compliance requirements applicable to public or higher education institutions.
Physical & Cognitive Demands
The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.
- Occasionally moves, positions, and transport standard event supplies and equipment weighing up to 25 lbs.
- This is largely an active role. This position frequently moves for extended periods during events, operates in an office environment and event spaces, and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
- The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to travel to and work from all RRCC campus locations.
Starting Salary
Starting salary range for this position is $72,159 to $79,375 annually, commensurate with education and experience. This is a full-time, FLSA-exempt position. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System.
