Executive Dean – Health Sciences

Job Objective

To provide strategic direction and operational oversight for the faculty’s departments and programs, ensuring alignment with HCT's mission and objectives. This includes spearheading the advancement of teaching and learning practices, guiding research activities and ensuring the relevance and rigor of academic programs in line with the evolving needs of faculty students and the academic community.

Main Responsibilities

Strategic Role:

  • Lead the faculty to ensure quality educational programs, aligning faculty efforts with HCT strategic goals, and fostering an environment conducive to innovative teaching, learning, and research.
  • Develop and manage the faculty budgets, ensuring optimal resource utilization and alignment with strategic objectives, while maintaining compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Foster a culture of philanthropy and alumni engagement within and outside the faculty, encouraging contributions that support academic programs and student initiatives.

Operational Role:

  • Facilitate regular meetings with Executive Deans and department heads to discuss academic performance, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Manage the development and refinement of academic programs and curricula, ensuring they meet educational objectives, industry relevance, and accreditation standards across all schools.
  • Oversee the implementation of a unified program review process to ensure compliance with HCT policies and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee faculty recruitment, performance management, and professional development, ensuring faculty are equipped to deliver high-quality education and support student success.
  • Implement a student life framework that will holistically develop 21st Century skills that will enhance their employability.
  • Develop and implement faculty development initiatives, including workshops and training sessions focused on teaching excellence and innovative pedagogical practices.
  • Promote interdisciplinary research and innovation, managing applied research projects and fostering partnerships with industry and academia to enhance the impact of research initiatives.
  • Establish a framework for evaluating research outcomes and disseminating findings to enhance HCT's academic reputation.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive student engagement strategies, including academic mentoring, career development, and support services to enhance student experience and success.
  • Monitor and assess student satisfaction and engagement through surveys and feedback mechanisms, using data to inform improvements.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of a strategic plan for the faculty’s research and innovation, ensuring collaboration with industry partners, compliance with ethical standards.
  • Oversee apprenticeship initiatives and partnerships with industry, ensuring students gain practical experience and enhance their employability opportunities.
  • Collaborate with employers to create tailored internship and job placement programs that align with students' academic and career goals.
  • Manage regular assessments of the faculty’s academic programs, student engagement, and faculty performance to identify areas for improvement and implement best practices across all campuses.
  • Utilize data analytics to inform decision-making and strategic planning within the academic cluster.
  • Oversee the management of the faculty’s digital learning resources and technology platforms to enhance the online learning experience.
  • Collaborate to organize events and initiatives that promote community involvement and strengthen relationships with alumni and industry partners.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in a relevant field from an accredited university is required (Nursing Background is Must).
  • A high degree of computer literacy and demonstrated ability to integrate technology into the learning environment and teaching methodology.
  • Current knowledge of industry practices, trends and issues.

Experience:

  • 15 years of progressive experience in higher education administration, with a focus on Health Sciences, with at least 8 years spent in a senior supervisory/leadership role with a record of progressive responsibility and authority.
  • Industry experience in the relevant discipline is required.
  • Proven track-record collaborating with business and industry.
  • Experience in developing course curriculum and assessment tools as per accreditation and international standards.
  • Experience designing and implementing quality assurance and institutional change processes.
  • Experience in budget planning and implementation.
  • Strong management or leadership skills as exhibited by experience in effectively leading a team and/or chairing committees.
  • Ability to ensure that appropriate systems to support strategic objectives are developed and implemented. Such systems may manage the formulation of budgets, resource allocation, total quality management, external income generation, staffing matters and/or community liaison.
  • Overseas work experience within a multi-cultural environment would be advantageous.
