We are looking for a dynamic, passionate, dedicated individual who will lead and implement LCC’s strategic plan.

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking an energetic, highly organized, dynamic professional to join our team. Our institution provides the highest quality education and service excellence in an environment of care, support, mutual respect, and integrity. The Executive Director is responsible for the leadership and operation of the Foundation enterprise. He/she participates personally and sets the example for dynamic, aggressive fundraising; manages Foundation assets; and effectively partners with the college.

The Executive Director is responsible for multiple functions that support the advancement of the Lamar Community College, with primary emphasis on leading fundraising activities from corporations, foundations, and individuals. The Executive Director leads fundraising functions for Lamar Community College (LCC) efforts and organizes training and mentoring programs for the foundation. The Executive Director develops a highly collaborative effort to maximize fundraising opportunities and results.

The Executive Director is a visionary, a passionate, innovative, and progressive leader, and has the broad institutional experience and the intellect necessary to motivate and to lead a large and diverse team of professionals and volunteers.

This position requires in-person work and all applicants outside of Lamar, Colorado must be willing to relocate.

Examples of Duties:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide Strategic and Operational Leadership
    1. Provide commitment and vision, identify and articulate objectives, and lead - in word and deed - the Foundation’s operations in a manner that is most efficient and effective toward the fulfillment of its mission and goals.
    2. Institute and lead collaborative planning processes to guide the organization forward and to provide a common context for its operations.
    3. Take responsibility for overseeing Foundation activities, policies, and asset management in compliance with LCC, Foundation, and federal guidelines. Regularly assess processes for increased efficiencies and effectiveness.
    4. Create and maintain an environment of personal accountability for staff and volunteers for all projects, job duties, and programming.
    5. Serve as member of the LCC President’s Council and other related LCC committees to participate in institutional planning.
    6. Establish a positive atmosphere in which high quality programs and services are delivered.
    7. Maintain strong understanding of the issues affecting community colleges and how those issues can attract significant donor interest.
    8. Serve frequently as a spokesperson for the Foundation with community, corporate, and foundation leaders.
    9. Participate in community activities, community organizations, and city and regional programs to establish channels of communication between the Lamar Community College and the various areas of LCC service region.
  • Lead Fundraising Efforts for Lamar Community College
    1. Plan, lead and stimulate enthusiasm for all fundraising efforts, including all comprehensive or other campaign activities, working closely with staff and volunteers.
    2. Lead and bear ultimate responsibility for annual fundraising progress, ensuring that annual goals for gift income and cash gifts are met.
    3. Work with the College staff and the LCC Foundation Board to develop and to implement policies ensuring effective fundraising practices and results.
    4. Develop and maintain relationships directly with major donors to the Foundation and LCC. These donors include local and national foundations, corporations, and individuals.
    5. Cultivate, solicit, and close gifts at the highest levels in collaboration with the President, other LCC administrators, Foundation Board members, and Community members.
    6. Ensure that all communication material for the Foundation reflects LCC standards and presents integrated messages to the donor community.
    7. Ensure that all fundraising information systems are up to date and coordinated with LCC.
    8. Inspire an environment that is conducive to fostering increased private giving and donor loyalty.
    9. Ensure the creation of systems and implementation of programs designed to provide accountability to donors for their gifts, including but not limited to gift acknowledgement, accurate record keeping and any reporting on the status of gifts and accounts that is agreed upon between donors and the Foundation.
    10. Maintain a working knowledge of planned giving alternatives and other major donor programs.
    11. Develop, track, and grow an alumni donation campaign strategy.
    12. Support Fundraising Efforts at Lamar Community College
    13. Provide policy and technical assistance to individual fundraising functions at LCC.
    14. Identify collaborative opportunities to attract new donors to LCC; oversee strategic donor management approach and system.
    15. Provide training opportunities and programs to LCC foundation leaders to ensure their effectiveness in fundraising.
    16. Support grant seeking opportunities for the College.
  • Manage Assets
    1. Work with the LCC finance staff and the investment policy committee of the Foundation board to develop and implement policies ensuring effective management of Foundation assets.
    2. Ensure the maximum efficiency and effectiveness of the operational assets of the Foundation’s enterprise, especially its budgets and personnel.
    3. Maintain a working knowledge of investment strategies and options.
  • Support the Foundation Board:
    1. Actively engage board members in the planning and fundraising process, and keep them informed on best practices in the field of higher education philanthropy.
    2. Plan and organize board training sessions as needed and donor recognition events.
    3. Assist the President in identifying and recruiting Foundation board members.
    4. Identify any needed adjustments to governance structure and support the board in implementing those changes

Required Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required
  • 1-3 years of experience in fundraising including a track record of cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors; campaign experience in all phases of a comprehensive campaign; working knowledge of planned giving.
  • Experience in management roles in the public or private sector.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; strong public speaking skills; effective writer with experience in developing proposals preferred; powerful motivator of staff and volunteers.
  • Strong belief and record of personal and professional integrity.
  • Commitment to professional development and equal opportunity.
  • Experience with non-profit organizations either as staff member or involved, fundraising board member.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strongly committed to the Lamar Community College’s mission, vision, goals, and strategic plan.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with, and inspire the trust of, staff, internal and external constituents the LCC academic community, and in particular the LCC President, LCC administrators, and donors.
  • Understanding of higher education systems and fundraising, with an understanding of varied philanthropic and sponsorship resources with large and/or national corporate and Individual foundation donors.
  • Excellent management skills; ability to lead through teamwork and cooperation.
  • Working knowledge of endowment management strategies and vehicles preferred.
  • Ability to think strategically and to analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to develop, implement and achieve organizational goals.
  • Skill in developing a vision for the organization and engaging staff members in translating that vision into action.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and effectively handle difficult, sensitive situations and relationships.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to assess needs, and multi-task
  • Ability to recognize change and manage a growing organization.

Supplemental Information:

Salary Range: $60,000 - $65,000

Salary will be commensurate with education, experience, and market competitiveness, while maintaining internal equity.
