Experimental Pathology Faculty

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (USA). The Department of Pathology of the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and OU Health seeks exceptional scientists and engineers to rapidly expand our experimental pathology faculty. The holders of these tenure-track positions at assistant professor to professor rank will push the frontiers of bioscience discovery and innovation for the benefit of human health in one of the University’s strategic research areas: cancer, diabetes, neuroscience, and vascular disease.

The OU Department of Pathology strives to fulfill our mission of great patient care, research, and education by recruiting and developing top talent (medicine.ouhsc.edu/academic-departments/pathology). With strengths in cancer biology, diabetes, and nanomedicine, the 13 members of our experimental pathology division advance molecular pathogenesis, diagnostics, and drug discovery; they also train over two dozen students in our PhD program. Furthermore, our clinician-scientists conduct investigations in dermatopathology, gynecologic pathology, and hematopathology.

OU Health Sciences is accelerating growth of its research enterprise as part of the University’s updated strategic plan (www.ou.edu/leadon/strategic-plan). Centers of excellence include the Stephenson Cancer Center, the Harold Hamm Diabetes Center, the Oklahoma Nathan Shock Center of Excellence in Aging Research, and our burgeoning neuroscience program. Additional opportunities for collaboration abound at the Norman and Tulsa campuses, including with the Gallogly College of Engineering.

Our over 35 clinical faculty members practice at OU Health, the state’s flagship academic health system, including the Oklahoma Children’s Hospital and the University of Oklahoma Medical Center. We serve all of Oklahoma, providing diagnostic medicine to patients with the most complex conditions.

Affordable and friendly, Oklahoma has a high quality of life. The Oklahoma City metro area is home to numerous museums, sports teams, and a great food scene. Outdoor activities in the state’s varied geography include birding, boating, cycling, fishing, hiking, and water skiing.

Requirements are:

• PhD (in the natural sciences or engineering), MD, or equivalent degree
• Funding
  • established investigators: extramural funding (NIH preferred) or substantial private grant funding
  • new investigators and current postdoctoral trainees: strong potential for funding in the first three years as PI
• ongoing high scholarly productivity
• strong laboratory and project management skills
• desire to work collaboratively and collegially to fulfill our tripartite mission
• commitment to outstanding teaching and mentoring of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows

We prize interdisciplinary approaches to understanding and preventing chronic diseases, as exemplified by OU Health Sciences’ biennial Web of Life Conference (research.ouhsc.edu/web-of-life-conference/). As such, the expertise needed to perform pioneering work in one of these emerging domains is very desirable:

• artificial intelligence
• bioengineering
• computational biology and computational pathology
• data science
• nanoscience and nanoengineering
• precision medicine
• quantum science and quantum engineering
• systems biology and systems medicine
