The Division of Finance and Administration (DFA) provides services and support to over 50,000 students, faculty, and staff with the mission of advancing UCI's brilliant future and the vision of becoming world-class campus partners. Facilities Management is responsible for the effective operation of Irvine campus buildings, grounds and utilities; for providing a safe, functionally suitable and aesthetic environment in support of academic, research and public service programs of the University. Providing comprehensive management of campus facilities requires the employment of approximately 325 personnel ranging in classification from custodians and groundskeepers to more technical skilled crafts such as electricians and plumbers, and professional design staff and engineers. These services cover more than 150 buildings of approximately 6 million gros square feet, and1,475 acres of grounds. Facilities Management has an annual operating budget exceeding $80 million in expenditures, with operating funds of $30 million and $15 million for reimbursable campus activities. Project Services a construction department within Facilities Management manages a portfolio of major infrastructure and renovation projects totaling $200M per year.

Your Role on the Team

Facilities Project Manager with experience who is responsible for coordinating all phases of renovation, maintenance, repair and minor capital projects, from establishment of design concepts project budgets and schedules through design implementation and coordination of construction. Execute and communicate project scope based on assessment of program, budget, building structure, utility infrastructure, and code compliance. Provide technical advice to customers and staff, and develop and evaluate alternate project solutions. Adhere to schedule and estimate and provide status reports as directed. Function as lead on projects as assigned by the Project Services Manager with a high degree of responsiveness to requests for service. Acts independently, receiving guidance at each key phase of the project. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

• Thorough working knowledge of building and construction, design, construction contract administration and California Building Codes, including full understanding of industry practices.
• Thorough project management skills, including skill to manage complex projects.
• Thorough skills in problem recognition / avoidance / resolution.
• Thorough organizational and analytical skills including skill to provide high quality control. Detail oriented to accurately proof contracts and other documents.
• Thorough written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills including high level political acumen.
• Proven ability to manage contractors and maintain compliance to the agreed-upon scope of work and budget.
• Knowledge of industry standards and utility systems when inspecting and surveying buildings infrastructure for the basis of project design development.
• Ability to work with consultants and material vendors in exploring design and construction options.
• Skill in working with people who have levels of design and construction knowledge ranging from detailed to very limited, to assist their understanding of project scope, design decisions, associated costs, project schedule, and codes and standards compliance and achieve a high level of customer satisfaction.
• Knowledge of University systems Policies and Procedures applicable to the Irvine campus.
• Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
• A minimum of 3 years of experienceof experience in Architectural, Engineering or Facilities fields, including 3 years of responsible planning, organizing and managing teams to execute renovation projects ranging in value from $50,000 and up.

Driver's License:

• Required to hold a valid drivers license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.

Preferred:

• Thorough knowledge of the organization, including its infrastructure and short and long range strategic building plans.
• Knowledge of principles used in preparing man-hour and material estimates for various types of projects.
• Skill in adjusting industry standard estimating procedures and guides to accommodate project-specific decisions.
• Knowledge of Public contracting code and policies as they pertain to procuring professional services, purchase orders, and construction contracts.
• Active California Department of Consumer Affairs- Architect License- preferred
• Active California Department of Consumer Affairs- Professional Engineer- preferred
• Project Management Institute- PMP- preferred
• USGBC- LEED credentials - preferred
• Association of Energy Engineers- Certified Energy Manager- preferred

Special Conditions:

• Must have a valid California Driver's License and participate in DMV Pull- Notice Program
• Must comply with UC vaccine policy
• Must be able to wear PPE
