The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) is accepting applications from candidates for the position of Faculty Research Associate AD-1 level, pending approval from the Navy . Candidates must show the capability to perform scholarly research in various areas of electrical engineering including power electronics, control systems, cybersecurity, modeling and simulation. The candidate’s past and present experience with DoD programs, the capability to hold a DoD security clearance, and publication record will all be considered. The candidate should be able to support present and future ECE research programs and may also support the department in teaching and advising. Qualified candidates with an BS in Electrical Engineering or related disciplines are encouraged to apply. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
Primary duties include:
Support faculty and students in department research programs.
Operate and improve various laboratory testbeds including microgrids and microgrid digital twins
Operate equipment that supports power system cybersecurity and anomaly detection
Help with modeling, simulations and coding projects
Support faculty and students with the development of software for machine learning, data acquisition and processing
Help faculty and students with laboratory experiments
Write technical papers and make presentations on scientific research results
Minimum Qualifications include:
A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or a closely related field.
Demonstrated ability to work with laboratory hardware and program in Matlab/Simulink, C, Python, Verilog.
Demonstrated ability to conduct experiments with guidance from senior team members, including operating basic test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, acquiring and processing experimental data, etc.
Demonstrated ability to work with student researchers.
Demonstrated ability to write scientific reports.
Preferred Qualifications include:
An interest in and experience in physics-based modeling of electrical circuits and power electronics.
An interest in data analysis and data driven modeling of electrical power systems.
Demonstrated ability to design and layout PCBs with guidance from senior team members.
Demonstrated ability to program FPGAs and other digital controllers with guidance from senior team members.
Demonstrated ability to write peer-reviewed technical papers
NPS is a fully accredited graduate school with students from all U.S. armed services, as well as foreign military officers. U.S. citizenship is required. Salary is highly competitive and includes a generous locality allowance. Monterey is a short drive south from the Silicon Valley and San Francisco Bay area and is ideally situated along the spectacular central California coast.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Applicants with foreign education will be required to select from a list of private organizations that are members of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES), which provide foreign education evaluations acceptable to NPS.
Relocation expenses may be authorized for this position. This position is not eligible for full-time telework.
