Position Summary:

Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is seeking a 9-month, full-time English Instructor. As a full-time faculty member of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and its English division, instructional assignments are during the day and/or evening at any of our campuses/locations: Salisbury (North), Concord (South or CBTC), Kannapolis (College Station or NCRC), or on-site at local county high schools. Accurate record-keeping is essential. Assistance with recruitment, advising, and retention of students is also expected of the faculty member. They will be asked to work with other English faculty in developing recommendations for curriculum concerns and growth. The individual will be appointed to serve on various committees, along with other College and Department responsibilities and obligations.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Masters Degree in English or a closely-related Masters Degree with at least 18 Graduate Hours with ENG prefix.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Looking for a unique individual to help the department develop new and exciting events and initiatives, possibly revolving around creative writing, critical thinking, literature, student publications, the RARCC book drive, technology in the classroom, the developmental English redesign, etc.

Duty and Responsibility:
  1. Successfully prepare, manage, and deliver course content in order to achieve course objectives, accommodate diverse learning styles, and meet student learning outcomes.
  2. Actively engage students and provide prompt feedback in an objective, respectful, and effective manner.
  3. Update, communicate and follow course syllabus content in accordance with directions provided and administrative guidance.
  4. Work collaboratively with the Colleges support services to identify and address the students academic support needs.
  5. Utilize College technology for the delivery of instruction and completion of operational processes; this includes but is not limited to the Colleges learning management system, email and calendaring solution, document management system(s), student information system, and employee portals.
  6. Meet deadlines, including maintaining and submitting accurate class records, employee records/requests, and other assigned tasks.
  7. When applicable, ensure laboratories are appropriately stocked with required supplies and equipment is in safe operating order.
  8. Support student mentoring, advising, registration and recruitment efforts, as appropriate or required.
  9. Participate in professional development opportunities (selected or assigned) in order to enhance and apply knowledge/skills within the discipline, to effectively utilize required course technology and College applications, and to maintain licensures (as applicable).
  10. Facilitate a positive, student-centered, and professional environment among students, faculty and staff.
  11. Participate in College meetings, events, and committees as appropriate or required.
  12. Attend and participate in the annual graduation ceremony.
