Farm Coordinator 2 - Wooster Dairy
Under direction of the Dairy Operations Manager, assumes intermittent supervisory responsibility of Farm Coordinator 1 and Dairy Worker employees; manages current diet records for tie-stall cows; performs experimental treatments on dairy cows; assists with conducting digestion, metabolism, mastitis, and other research trials on dairy cows; performs other general activities related to dairy cattle research; preps cattle for trials; samples milk, feeds, and excreta; weighs and records amounts of feed, milk, and excreta; maintains records; weighs cattle; maintains equipment specifically associated with digestion, metabolism, and mastitis trials; administers rumen boluses; collects samples of feed, milk, blood, rumen fluid, and other materials; schedules sampling; records clinical observations such as body temperature, respiration rates, and lethargy scores; prepares sampling containers including those for DHIA samples; performs other duties related to dairy research including milking, feeding, cleaning, bedding livestock housing, and assisting veterinarian with herd health treatments; other duties as assigned. Normal shift hours will be 11AM to 7PM and requires occasional weekend work. May be on call for emergency situations.
Assists with the supervision and training of Agricultural Technician 1 and dairy worker employees on second shift under the direction of the Dairy Operations Manager in conjunction with the Lactating Herd Coordinator. Assists in milking, feeding, bedding, manure handling, and general animal care, including estrus detection, artificial insemination, and health treatments. Assists with maintaining equipment associated with such duties.
Assists with humanely and safely moving cattle between pens, barns, and facilities. Assists research faculty and graduate students conduct digestion, metabolism, mastitis, any other research trials, and may be on call for emergency situations.
Monitor and record daily chores using Excel, PCDART, or other farm software. May be required to haul, load, and unload cattle in a stock trailer.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS High School diploma or GED. Certification or vocational training may be preferred. 1 year of relevant experience required. 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.Position located in Wooster, OH.
