Film Equipment Manager
Position Announcement
Utah Tech University seeks a full-time Film Equipment Manager to support Utah Tech University's Digital Film program, the Digital Media program, and Utah Tech's Creative Studios (UTCS). This is a full-time, 12-month position. The Equipment Manager oversees the check-out/check-in process for students, faculty, and staff users, addressing questions from users about gear operations, maintenance of the gear, and maintaining a master reservation system for gear reservations. As time allows within the work week, the Equipment Manager may be tasked with collaborating with UT's Instructional Technology department for oversight, imaging, and backup of equipment associated with the programs such as editing computers. There is also a significant opportunity to develop skills and training expertise on a state-of-the-art "volume wall" resident in the facility, upskilling into the VFX space around the Unreal Engine 3-D effects platform, and involvement in production studio space support.
Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain a centralized equipment reservation system for students, faculty, and staff
- Oversee equipment check-out and check-in processes, ensuring all gear is issued and returned in proper working order with required accessories
- Organize and maintain the equipment storage area ("the cage") for efficient access, inventory control, battery charging, and user agreements
- Respond to user questions regarding proper operation and use of film, video, and digital media equipment
- Perform basic troubleshooting, repair, and routine maintenance of production equipment
- Monitor equipment condition and report repair, replacement, or upgrade needs
- Collaborate with Instructional Technology and IT personnel to support, image, update, and back up equipment, including editing bays, VFX, and 3-D animation systems (as workload permits)
- Support production studio spaces and related technical needs
- Develop operational knowledge and training expertise on the facility's state-of-the-art volume wall system (as workload permits)
- Develop skills and training capability with Unreal Engine and related 3-D/VFX production platforms (as workload permits)
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Film Production, Digital Film, Media Production, Digital Media, or a closely related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Extensive experience in film or video production practices and professional production equipment.
- Specialized skills with digital film cameras, lenses, accessories, and production support gear such as dollies, track systems, and other specialized production gear are a plus.
- Ability to work effectively with a variety of users and team members, including students, production staff, faculty, and external clients.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with college-level coursework and university processes and operations is strongly preferred.
- Effective use of Adobe production platforms and workflows, including Premiere and After Effects is strongly desired.
- Demonstrated skill and knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to details.
- Willingness to be part of a complex production team that supports three academic programs (digital film, animation, and digital media) and an entrepreneurial university center (Utah Tech Creative Studios).
Supplemental Information
POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time overtime-exempt staff position. Annual salary of $71,000 with a desired start date of July 1, 2026.
