Reporting to the Finance Budget Director, the Finance Budget Manager plays a pivotal role in the effectiveness and operational efficiency of the college budget office.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, responsibilities include:

  • Manage preparation of annual and multi-year operating budget.
  • Oversee maintenance and entry of budget data in offline files and CUNY’s enterprise system.
  • Manage junior staff responsible for running and analyzing financial reports.
  • Manage team that reconciles payroll data housed in CUNY and New York State systems and tracks NYS cash balances by account.
  • Develop and implement standardized reporting for the Public Safety and Facilities Management departments within the Division of Operations and Administration and serve as a budget liaison for these and other units within the Operations & Administration division.
  • Facilitate the review, approval, and processing of budget modification requests, ensuring timely responses to departmental budget issues and questions.
  • Working with others in the department, develop tools and processes for budget tracking, forecasting, and analysis to empower division heads and program directors to make informed fiscal decisions.
  • Participate in the ongoing adoption of new technologies to streamline and improve data analysis, reporting, and other Budget Office functions.
  • Contribute to efforts to enhance the end-user experience through information sharing on Budget’s intranet pages, including workflow charts and instructional materials.
  • Identify training and professional development needs of junior staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and six years' related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with financial accounting and annual budget preparation and administration.
  • Demonstrated experience using advanced Excel functions, Office 365, and Teams.
  • Preferred experience managing budgets and expenditures in an enterprise system such as Workday.
  • Preferred four years’ work experience in accounting-related field.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Manages the budget function of a College or major program under the direction of a senior administrator.

  • Prepares guidelines, funding formulas, and models for the annual budget
  • Supports strategic planning activities; assesses outcomes and makes recommendations regarding resource allocations.
  • Monitors and analyzes budget expenditures
  • Assists in developing budgeting policies and procedures, and interprets University-wide policy
  • May hire, supervise, and train budget and/or clerical staff.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$86,741- $94,909; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
