Job Summary

The Accountant II prepares, reconciles, and audits budgets. Prepares financial reports, invoices, schedules, and/or statements. Completes journal entries. Reviews, analyzes, and approves expenditures. Determines fund balances. Ensures compliance with applicable laws, University policies, and procedures. Provides guidance and trains entry-level accountants.

The University of Alabama Press is the scholarly publishing arm of the University of Alabama that acquires, develops, publishes, and markets 60+ new books a year. The Press also manages a backlist of 1,800 previous books still in print. Alabama Heritage is a 40-year-old non-profit quarterly magazine co-published by the University of Alabama, UAB, and the Alabama Department of Archives and History with a fulltime staff of four.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting, finance, business, or related financial field and two (2) years of accounting experience; OR Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

Skills and Knowledge

Effective verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Self-motivated and able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively. Proficient in advanced spreadsheet and database operations. Ability to utilize online financial systems.

Preferred Qualifications

Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Experience working in higher education accounting and experience processing contracts and royalty payments. Banner, Concur, and BuyBama experience. Ability to analyze and interpret complex data. Ability to research and prepare comprehensive reports.
