Position Description
The Fire and Life Safety Specialist performs technical and field-based fire prevention and life safety duties in support of the fire prevention program. This position is responsible for conducting routine fire and life-safety inspections to ensure compliance with adopted fire codes, life-safety standards, and local ordinances.
Major/Essential Functions
- Conduct fire and life safety inspections across all TTU-owned and leased properties
- Prepare detailed inspection reports
- Issue permits per University policy
- Respond to complaints regarding fire hazards and code violations
- Coordinate and lead fire drills, evacuation exercises, and fire prevention programs
- Conduct acceptance testing on campus fire systems
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Certification as TCFP Basic Fire Inspector or (NFPA equivalent) or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire. Knowledge of NFPA standards, International Fire Code, and fire protection systems. Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently. Valid driver's license and ability to travel across campus.
This position requires eligibility to drive TTU vehicles, including a valid U.S. driver license and two years of driving experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- TCFP Intermediate (or higher) Fire Inspector certification
- Experience in higher education or large institutional setting
- TCFP Fire Investigator Certification
- TCFP Plans Examiner Certification
- Familiarity with hazardous materials and laboratory safety
Pay Range
$23.08 - $30.63 - $37.69
