Food Service Supervisor
Job Summary
The Wisconsin Union is seeking a motivated leader to help lead student staff and deliver exceptional hospitality as a Multi‑Unit Supervisor at the Memorial Union. This role is part of the team that oversees effective and efficient scheduling and training for the more than 300 student workers employed by Memorial Union Dining. This position balances scheduling and training responsibilities with real‑time oversight of food quality, presentation, and customer service. The successful person in this role will be comfortable working directly with student staff on the line as well as managing data at a desk.
As the social heart of UW–Madison, the Wisconsin Union provides events, facilities, and activities for students, staff, faculty, thousands of Union members, and campus visitors. It also offers hands‑on leadership opportunities for hundreds of UW–Madison students.
Physical Demands
Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds occasionally needed; Ability to work outside in inclement weather needed.
Work Schedule and Location
This position is scheduled to work a combination of days, nights and weekends, with 2 days off in a row. Operational and work schedules will be closely aligned with the services and customer needs of our units. As a result, work schedules will be adjusted during specific times of the year to meet demand.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Develops and schedules logistics and menus for daily and catering operations
- Leads and provides exceptional customer service, answers questions, and provides information regarding food preparation, catering, and associated activities
- Performs routine and non-routine food preparation activities including cook to order and specialty foods
- Cleans, inspects, and maintains kitchen equipment and work areas
- Recruits, hires, onboards, and sets schedules for Memorial Union Student Dining Staff
- Adheres to federal, state, campus, and local food safety regulations, policies, and procedures
- Assigns and coordinates the day-to-day activities of food service staff

Compensation
The starting salary is 22.50/ hour – but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications
- Previous restaurant experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience scheduling staff using an app like When I Work or similar
- Previous restaurant experience in supervisory or lead role
Certifications
- ServSafe Certificate required or able to obtain within 6 months of hire
- Alcohol Server License Required or able to obtain within 6 months of hire
