The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences invites applications for the position of a

Full Professor (W3) of Biogeophysics

at the Institute of Soil Science and Land Evaluation to be filled in the winter semester 2026/2027.

The appointee (m/f/d) should represent and further develop the entire field of biogeophysics. In terms of content, the professorship should contribute to the following research priorities of the faculty in internal and cross-institute collaborations and projects: “Sustainable cultivation of resource-efficient plants – yield stability,” “Computational science, big data, simulations and applications of artificial intelligence,” “Biodiversity in changing times,” and the research area of agri-photovoltaics. It is desired to collaborate in the Cluster of Excellence 3121 “TERRA Terrestrial Geo-Biosphere Interactions in a Changing World.” The professorship is central to the focus area “Climate variability: seasonal and regional weather forecasts.” Knowledge of modeling water, energy, and nutrient fluxes across scales (from the rhizosphere to the pedon to the regional scale) and the soil microbiome is expected. The combination of biophysical models with machine learning methods and experience in upscaling are desired. We are seeking an individual with a demonstrated history of internationally recognized research and a record of high-ranking, relevant publications in the field, as well as the capacity to acquire third-party funding.

In addition to biogeophysical courses (e.g. soil and environmental physics, modeling, GIS), joint courses are also to be held with the other soil science professorships (e.g. fundamentals of soil physics) and other departments in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs of the faculty. Depending on the degree program, courses must be offered in German and English.

The position offers attractive conditions for first-time full professor (W3) appointees. Prerequisites for applicants are habilitation or an equivalent research and teaching record which may have been established during a Junior or Assistant Professorship.

The advertised position is tenured. If appointed as full professor for the first time, the University of Hohenheim reserves its right to probationary employment. With equal qualifications, preference will be given to candidates with disabilities.

The University of Hohenheim seeks to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching and therefore strongly encourages female scientists to apply.
