"Full Time Faculty English- Reading Specialist - Mount Wachusett Community College"

General Statement of Duties:

Mount Wachusett Community College seeks an educator who believes that engaging and authentic teaching matters more than anything else in the pursuit of student success. This position will be focused on developmental or pre-college-level reading instruction, as well as related classes such as developmental writing and/or first-year experience. The Department seeks a leader with an innovative approach to student success in the pre-college classroom. The successful candidate will be engaged with emerging trends in the field of adult literacy.

The Reading faculty member will teach various courses in the department, including developmental reading. The faculty should be committed to using active learning strategies that promote student engagement. They will collaborate with colleagues in the English department and across the institution to design and implement effective models for developmental coursework that best meets the needs of MWCC's student population. The faculty member will possess excellent writing and communication skills, academic credentials, technological proficiency, and the expertise to provide students in programs across the college with excellent instruction.

Responsibilities:

• Provides classroom instruction in reading and related subjects;
• Serves on college committees as elected or appointed;
• Attends regularly scheduled departmental, divisional and college meetings; Teaches courses as assigned by the Dean;
• Participates in academic advisement for approximately 18 students;
• Maintains office hours;
• Participates in college service activities (i.e., college committees, meetings, activities, etc.);
• Maintains disciplinary expertise; and
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

• MA or PhD degree in Rhetoric/Composition, Reading, Reading Education, English, or closely related field (such as Adult Literacy, Adult Education, Developmental Education, Linguistics);
• Interest and expertise in developmental education in reading and writing
• Three years of college teaching experience;
• Knowledge of educational methods
• Proficient in oral and written communication.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience facilitating First-Year Seminar/First-Year Experience programs
• Familiarity with co-requisite approaches to developmental education

Additional Information:

Salary: $52,880.00-$89,901.00

**Actual Salary will be determined in accordance with the classification system of MCCC/MTA commensurate with Education & Experience.
