Job Description

Montgomery College, Germantown Campus, invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Biology to begin in August 2026. Montgomery College provides a world-class education in state-of-the-art facilities to a diverse student body. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to student success, experience working in a multicultural environment, the ability to engage and motivate, dedication to the community college mission, and highly effective oral and written communication skills. Responsibilities include: teaching lecture and laboratory sections of first- and second-year biology classes, curriculum development and assessment, course coordination and faculty mentoring, student advising, supervising undergraduate research and honors projects, utilizing the latest instructional technology and laboratory equipment, committee work, and service to the department, campus, and college. This position is part of a collective bargaining unit.

The Chemical and Biological Sciences Department offers Associates degrees in Biological Sciences and Chemistry and Biochemistry, as well as an Associates degree and Certificates in Biotechnology. Teaching assignments may include various delivery modes, such as face-to-face, online, remote, hybrid/blended formats during days, evenings, and weekends. Montgomery College has four campuses and instructs courses at area high schools. Faculty may be assigned to any campus or to teach online.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Teach lecture and laboratory sections of first- and second-year biology courses, in topics including introductory biology for non-majors and majors, anatomy and physiology for non-majors and majors, with the opportunity to teach other courses, such as Microbiology.
  • Serve as a course coordinator, prepare materials and schedules, collaborate with laboratory staff, and mentor faculty.
  • Hold regular office hours, and advise students on academic plans, transfer options, and professional/career opportunities.
  • Teach Early College, dual enrollment, and honors classes, and supervise research projects.
  • Design and continuously update curricula that prepare students for transfer to four-year institutions and health science programs, and build career-focused skills.
  • Engage students through active, collaborative, and experiential learning approaches, and utilize a variety of strategies and methods for assessment.
  • Incorporate the use of a learning management system (Blackboard) and other relevant and innovative technology into instruction.
  • Serve on and lead department, discipline, campus, and college committees.
  • Participate and lead in the expansion, implementation, and evaluation of learning outcomes assessments for courses and programs.
  • Maintain an active program of professional development and participate in professional organizations and activities.
  • Teach an assigned workload of a minimum of thirty (30) equivalent semester hours (ESH) per academic year, which may include morning, evening, weekend, online, or accelerated classes. Opportunities may exist to teach summer classes.

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree or higher in a Biological Science or closely related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of teaching at a two-year or four-year academic institution.
  • Experience teaching college-level anatomy and physiology lecture and laboratory courses for majors using research-based instructional strategies.
  • Understanding of and commitment to effective collaboration with colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with and facilitate learning for students of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences.
  • Understanding of and commitment to student success, including advising and increasing retention and transfer.
  • Experience integrating technology into course delivery, including the use of a Learning Management System (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas) and/or teaching online courses.
  • Demonstrated experience using various teaching modalities (face-to-face, remote, blended/hybrid, and online).

Additional Information:

  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require an employer-sponsored visa.
  • A candidate with an international degree is required to have a U.S. degree equivalency before hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in a Biological Science or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and evidence of currency in anatomy and physiology, microbiology, and their applications.
  • Experience with basic laboratory methods in anatomy and physiology and microbiology, including lab safety and equipment, and aseptic technique.
  • Experience in curriculum development and advising students on academic plans, transfer options, and professional/career opportunities in programmatic and health science fields.
  • Experience coordinating high-enrollment courses with laboratories, mentoring, and evaluating faculty.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development, with a consistent and progressive focus on pedagogical currency of student learning methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing, developing, and/or supervising undergraduate research opportunities.
  • Experience leading curriculum and/or learning outcomes-focused committees in an educational environment
  • Experience writing grant proposals and working on grant-related projects.
  • Experience teaching dual enrollment, Early College, or high school at the college level.
  • Experience teaching online synchronous, fully-distant (asynchronous), and accelerated anatomy and physiology classes.
  • Demonstrated experience with technology in the classroom beyond LMS and PPT.
  • Experience working with faculty, staff, and students in a culturally diverse environment.

Hiring Range: $63,254 - $96,299
