Full Time - IT Systems & Operations Technician
SUMMARY: Under routine direction, deploys, troubleshoots and maintains systems, servers, desktops, and LAN networks. Provides support and acts as a backup to the system and operations manager. In addition, the IT technician will provide technical support for Aztec Shops operations as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Installs and maintains POS Hardware, diagnoses equipment problems and performs necessary repairs where applicable.
- Setup, configure, document and deploy mobile devices for in house applications.
- Test and setup new desktop and hardware along with related operating systems and business software.
- Administers application configuration changes for POS systems.
- Assists in troubleshooting other applications as needed.
- Perform services calls on network and hardware related issues, diagnose equipment problems and perform necessary repairs where applicable.
- Monitors IT ticketing system and completes assigned tasks.
- Documents work performed and resolution steps.
- Provide support and maintenance for the Aztec Shops LAN and related infrastructure.
- Performs server maintenance.
- Performs preventative maintenance on hardware (desktops, POS, printers, scanners).
- Develops and maintains working relationships with customers, coworkers, vendors, student organizations, faculty, staff, and University personnel.
- Must be able to work after hours, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Must comply with and ensure continued, consistent compliance with all company policies, and federal, state, and local laws/regulations including but not limited to: employment, safety, and health.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: The minimum requirement for applicants is an Associate's degree in information technology, computer science or similar; plus 1-2 years of experience in a technical support, operations, or systems technician role. Experience with monitoring and maintaining IT systems and operations, operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux), system documentation and reporting, along with networking basics.
PREFERRED SKILLS & CERTIFICATIONS:
- Certifications: Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert, Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, CompTIA Cloud+ or equivalent.
- Preferred Skills: Experience with Windows Server, Linux, or Unix environments; Understanding of Active Directory, group policy, and Microsoft Entra; Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN's and firewalls; Familiarity with scripting languages like PowerShell, Bash, or Python; Understanding of server hardware, storage systems, and data center operations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must be able to read, write and understand English. Requires the ability to follow verbal and written instructions, guidelines and objectives. Requires the ability to read, comprehend, analyze, and interpret general business information, and governmental regulations. Requires the ability to write reports and communicate effectively using telephonic, written, and electronic means. Requires the ability to effectively and respectfully present information one-on-one, small, and large group situations to customers, management and employees of the organization.
- MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Basic math skills with the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
- REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and develop solutions/strategies. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of information or instructions with several undefined and some concrete variables. Requires good analytical, quantitative skills, organizational and management skills.
- MANUAL DEXTERITY: Must be able to utilize a computer. Requires the ability to use a variety of office machines and equipment.
- PHYSICAL COMMUNICATION: Must have the ability to talk/expressing and/or exchanging ideas and hear/perceiving sounds.
- PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; handle objects; keypad or papers and books. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.
- WORKING CONDITIONS AND HAZARDS: Work is regularly performed in a traditional office setting with travel to work sites for troubleshooting, support, installations and inspections. There may be exposure to dust or other airborne particles. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to cold or humid conditions. May work outdoors in a stadium environment; exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, and allergens, work temperatures and noise.
