General Maintenance Worker
Job Description
This position exists to provide a clean, safe and healthy environment to all Minneapolis College customers through performing general maintenance duties according to a regular schedule and specially assigned maintenance and repair activities.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Complete seasonal cleaning projects to include carpet extraction, stripping and waxing floors, and detailed cleaning as assigned by supervisor.
- Use equipment consistent with its intended purpose and design.
- Report any defective, broken, or unsafe equipment to your supervisor. Attach tag on the handle of the equipment stating problem, date, and name of person reporting the problem.
- Comply with the Occupational Safety and Health Act, and participate in mandatory training, testing, and certification for employees and equipment safety and maintenance.
- Operate all equipment, and store and handle all supplies, in a safe manner. Utilize the appropriate personnel safety equipment.
- Clean and disinfect urinals, toilets, sinks, counters and work areas using trigger sprayers and C3 machines.
Salary Range:
$20.51 - $25.43 hourly / $42,825 - $53,098 annually
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of different types of flooring/floor covering sufficient to determine proper methods of maintenance and appropriate cleaning methods, materials, agents and equipment.
- Knowledge of chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia, bleaches, scouring agents and soaps sufficient to appropriately select the agent(s), handle and apply, and dispose of safely.
- Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance sufficient to use effectively and operate safely and to make minor repairs.
- Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.
- Ability to perceive and determine potential safety hazards.
- Ability to perform assigned tasks with limited direction.
- Ability to use database programs sufficient to enter and retrieve information and keep simple records

Physical Requirements
- Frequently bend, lift, and maneuver items daily.
- Move from one location to another while navigating uneven terrain.
- Work in a seated or standing position for extended periods of time.
- Move and/or transport items weighing up to 25 pounds on a regular basis.
Other Requirements
Current and or former employees must be in good standing with Minneapolis College for consideration.
In accordance with the Minnesota State Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State's vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
