Salary Range: $100,600.00 - $111,800.00
*As required under NYC Human Rights Law Int 1208-2018 - Salary range for this role when Hired for NYC Offices

Position Summary

Provides genetic testing, education and support to patients and provides programmatic support to the department's clinical program(s). Functions as an advanced level healthcare provider working under the delegated authority of a supervising physician. The role and responsibilities extend beyond those of the Genetic Counselor and are focused on providing advanced clinical services. In collaboration with an attending physician, is responsible for the coordination and direct care of patients within specialty area(s) and clinical protocols as needed. This role is also responsible for providing patient and clinical staff education and ensures compliance with clinical policies & procedures. Position will report up to the Genetic Counselor III (if present in the department).

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for standard clinical care and education responsibilities as listed in the genetic counselor 1 role and scope of practice.
  • Performs advanced clinical services or other tasks delegated by the supervising physician(s), consistent with education, training and practice protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Help create/improve clinical practice protocols. Provides clinical mentorship and supervision to junior staff.
  • Supervises and mentors' interns and students from the Weill Cornell genetic counseling graduate program.
  • When relevant, supervises and mentors' interns and students from various outside educational institutions.
  • Develops educational and written materials for students undergoing internship rotations at WCM.
  • Maintenance of CEU requirements.
  • Participates in genetic counselor program development within the department.
  • Incorporate medical and scientific literature into evidenced-based practice recognizing that there are limitations and gaps in knowledge and data.
  • Provides recommendations on improvements to workflows and patient care services.
  • When relevant, Presents research at local, national, or international professional meetings.
  • Participates in interviewing and selecting candidates for the Weill Cornell MS in genetic counseling program, and when relevant, genetic counseling staff, administrative and internship positions.
  • Assists with the orientation and training of new staff.
  • When relevant, complies evidence of research presentations and publications.
  • When relevant, coordinates subject visits in the research clinics; oversees case scheduling, obtains informed consent from research subjects as needed; updates and maintains IRB protocol approvals as needed.
  • Serves as course director and/or lecturer for the Weill Cornell genetic counseling graduate program.
  • Performs other related duties as directed.

Education

  • Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited genetic counseling program by the ACGC.

Experience

Minimum 3-5 years related experience in a genetic counseling position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of principles of human, medical, and public health genetics and genomics and their related sciences.
  • Ability to use a range of genetic counseling skills and models to facilitate informed decision making and adaptation to genetic risks or conditions.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems and maintaining accurate patient records.
  • Ability to apply genetic counseling skills in a culturally responsive and respectful manner to all clients.
  • Ability to write concise and understandable clinical and scientific information for audiences of varying educational backgrounds.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling required, inclusive of Master's degree in Genetic Counseling from a program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands
