  • Mentorship from academic library professionals, working directly with the Dean of the Barnard Library

Key Responsibilities

Faculty Publications & Collection Development
  • Collect and analyze faculty CVs to extract publication data (books, chapters, articles, edited volumes, etc.).

  • Generate recommendations for purchasing or licensing faculty-authored books and other materials to liaison librarians.
Open Access & Repository Support

  • Review faculty publications to determine copyright and Open Access eligibility, including green and gold OA pathways.
  • Identify works appropriate for institutional repository deposit
  • Coordinate with librarians on rights checking and workflows.
  • Support the promotion and use of Manifold, Barnard Library's open publishing platform, for faculty research and teaching.
Faculty Publications Display
  • Work with the Access Services team to update and maintain a physical and/or digital display of recent faculty publications.
  • Ensure display data is accurate, current, and reflects a diverse range of departments and scholarly outputs.
Outreach, Communications, & Workshop Development
  • Develop an outreach and communications plan to promote library services related to faculty publications and open access.
  • Draft clear, engaging language for emails, web pages, and other faculty-facing communications.
  • Design and help facilitate at least one workshop or information session for faculty on publishing support, open access, or Manifold.
  • Contribute to strategies for setting and reinforcing faculty expectations around library support for scholarly publishing.

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements

Required Qualifications
  • Enrollment in a graduate program in Library & Information Science, Information Studies, or a closely related field.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with complex, text-heavy documents (such as CVs and bibliographies).
  • Interest in scholarly communication, academic publishing, or open access.
  • Strong written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with academic publishing models (e.g., journals, monographs, OA publishing).
  • Experience working with citation data, CVs, or bibliographic tools.
  • Interest in outreach, instruction, or academic librarianship.

Hours & Term

  • 8-10 hours per week
  • 1-2 days per week, approximately 4-5 hours per day, or one full 8-hour day
  • Spring 2026 (likely March 2026) through June 30, 2026
  • Pay Rate: $32 per hour.
  • This is primarily a remote position, with the expectation of coming into the library once or twice per month for in-person training and co-teaching or leading workshops.

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
