Grant Writer

Posting Description

GRANT WRITER, Office of Innovation and Strategy, supports this mission by helping faculty and research teams secure external funding from government agencies, foundations, industry partners, and private philanthropic sources. This role focuses on identifying, prioritizing, and pursuing funding opportunities aligned with HEALS strategic goals and supporting long-term sustainability of research and programmatic activities.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree; a minimum of three years of related experience in successful (funded) grant development, scientific writing and editing, or science foundation work, preferably in an academic or non-profit environment; demonstrated success of proposals developed and awarded from federal, corporate, foundation, and/or individual donor sources; ability to understand and communicate scientific content effectively to a broad audience; knowledge of NIH and NSF grants, proposal guidelines, and online proposal submission and reporting systems; excellent organization skills, especially as related to collection and communication of complex information; outstanding time management skills with the ability to successfully prioritize multiple projects and priorities; excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and to collaborate in a team with diverse backgrounds and skill sets in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment; discretion with confidential information; extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and collaboration tools such as Google Drive and Dropbox.

PREFERRED: Experience at MIT or another higher education institution; PhD or MD in life sciences or health-related field; experience in writing successful NIH R01 proposals, training grants, program grants, or similar; experience with industry funding; experience with securing funding from individual donors; Master’s or doctoral degree or equivalent; and degree in a scientific field related to health, life sciences, or engineering.

This is a two-year appointment that may be eligible for renewal contingent upon available funding.
