Research Administrator Senior

The Data Science for Dynamic Intervention Decision-Making Center (d3center) is seeking an experienced Research Administrator to provide comprehensive pre- and post-award research administration support for a complex and diverse research portfolio. The d3c Research Administrator will partner closely with faculty, staff, and central offices to ensure compliant, efficient, and strategic stewardship of sponsored projects across their full lifecycle, including a P50 Center for Excellence award from the NIH. 

The Data Science for Dynamic Intervention Decision-Making Center (d3center) is an interdisciplinary collective of data scientists revolutionizing the design and delivery of interventions in healthcare and education. d3c strives to cultivate a bottom-up, interactive, team-oriented workplace that values, above all else, how people work together in the service of developing and disseminating novel data science tools that matter. As we develop the methodological toolkit scientists need to address today's biggest public health challenges, we're building an open-source ecosystem for sharing our tools and collaborating with and training scientific partners to implement our methodology to solve real-world problems. Through partnerships with stakeholders around the world, we will catalyze a new generation of evidence-based, technology-powered treatments that improve health and education outcomes for everyone.

This position will report to the d3c Managing Director, and partner closely with experienced research administrators housed within the Survey Research Center (SRC).

Post-Award Project Administration and Financial Management:

  • Manage post-award activities for a portfolio of sponsored projects, including award setup, financial oversight, effort reporting, subaward management, and closeout
  • Monitor expenditures and commitments to ensure alignment with sponsor terms, approved budgets, and project timelines
  • Reconcile accounts monthly for accuracy and allowability and to ensure compliance with SRC, U-M, and sponsor guidelines
  • Prepare and maintain monthly faculty effort spreadsheets to track effort commitments across time
  • Identify and resolve compliance, financial, and administrative issues; escalate risks as appropriate and recommend corrective actions
  • Prepare materials for annual sponsor project reports such as Research Performance Progress Reports (RPPR), preparing subcontracts in eResearch, routing purchase orders, managing PeoplePays, and other reporting requirements

Pre-Award Activities:

  • Lead and coordinate the preparation, review, and submission of complex proposals, including multi-PI, multi-institutional, and center-scale submissions
  • Develop and review detailed budgets and justifications, including cost sharing, subawards, effort commitments, and compliance components
  • Interpret and apply sponsor, federal, and university policies to ensure proposals are accurate, competitive, and compliant
  • Prepare and finalize commonly required proposals documents such as facilities, biosketches, and managing subcontract forms
  • Rout proposals through the eResearch proposal management system at the University of Michigan ensuring timely submissions
  • Prepare Just in Time documentation and other sponsored requests

Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with sponsor, ISR, SRC and university guidelines
  • Help with the creation and management of Unfunded Agreements/Data Use Agreements (UFA/DUA) in eRPM
  • Help draft administrative pieces for Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications for human subjects' studies
  • Attend research administration meetings and training to remain current on changes in policies and procedures affecting proposal preparation, financial and administrative reporting

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 - 7 (Senior level) years of progressive experience in research administration, including both pre- and post-award responsibilities.
  • Bachelor's degree and 3 - 4 (Intermediate level) years of progressive experience in research administration, including both pre- and post-award responsibilities.
  • Experience with pre- and post-award federal awards
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products, Google suites and communication applications such as Zoom
  • Experience with business tools such as eResearch, Business Objects, and other administrative systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting infrastructure and/or center grants
  • Experience with ISR research administration systems (e.g., proposal and award management, financial reporting systems)

Openings may be filled at the Research Administrator Intermediate or Research Administrator Senior level depending on match with opportunity, your depth and breadth of experience and qualifications.

  • Positions at the Research Administrator Intermediate level will be filled at the $72,000 - $80,000 salary range.
  • Positions at the Research Administrator Senior level will be filled at the $85,000- $95,000 salary range.
