Position Summary

The Grants Manager is a strategic leadership role at the Center for Behavioral Cardiovascular Health (CBCH), combining high-level oversight of research implementation with streamlined grants management. This position will ensure the timely, high-quality execution of the Center’s Research portfolio while modernizing and automating administrative workflows to maximize efficiency and align with evolving Department of Medicine structures. This role is ideal for a forward-thinking, solutions-driven leader who can balance the immediate needs of research projects with the long term goal of creating scalable, technology enabled processes – freeing staff time for higher-value scientific strategic work.


Responsibilities

Grants Management

  • Lead the planning, execution and monitoring of CBCH’s research projects, ensuring all milestones, deliverables and compliance requirements are met or exceeded.
  • Coach and mentor staff to drive adoption of new processes and ensure compliance and alignment with strategic and priorities
  • Partner with faculty, staff, and leadership to shape research strategy, define measurable outcomes, and address operational bottlenecks
  • Oversee the development, submission, and post-award management of grants, contracts, subcontracts and sponsored project agreements
  • Collaborate with Principal Investigators, CBCH administration, and Sponsored Projects Administration to ensure compliance with and fiscal accuracy
  • Provide strategic input on budget development, adjustments, closeouts, operational initiatives, and alignment with the Center’s funding priorities and organizational goals.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal, foundation, and institutional funding policies, and proactively identify new funding opportunities.
  • Lead strategic engagement with digital health partners, centralizing knowledge and guiding cross-team alignment to enhance research integration, optimize portfolio outcomes, and drive strategic impact.

Development Strategy:

  • Lead an initiative to evaluate CBCH’s administrative, regulatory and grants processes for automation opportunities leveraging AI and other emerging technologies
  • Research and implement workflows, dashboards, and digital tools that improve data accuracy, speed of execution, and reporting capabilities.
  • Collaborate with Regulatory, Data and IT teams to ensure integration between platforms and alignment with CUIMC compliance requirements
  • Represent CBCH in institutional working groups focused on process optimization, research operations, and digital transformation.

Perform other responsibilities as required.


Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education, training and/or experience, plus a minimum of four years of related experience.


Other Requirements

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in multi-disciplinary project management.
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with flexibility for early mornings, evenings or weekends, as needed.
  • Experience with process automation, workflow design, or digital transformation projects.
  • Familiarity with CUIMC/Columbia University systems (Rascal, InfoEd) and platforms like Qualtrics, FileMaker.
  • Experience in clinical research, project and personnel management.
  • Demonstrated ability to direct a multi-disciplinary or varied constituency group toward successful attainment of a common goal.
  • Must successfully complete systems training requirements.
