Groundskeeper (Clay Center, NE)
Description of Work
The U.S. Meat Animal Research Center (USMARC) is a 34,000-acre facility near Clay Center, NE. All work performed at USMARC supports research that is focused on solving high priority problems for the U.S. beef, sheep, and swine industries.
As the Groundskeeper, you will:
- Maintain company property and surrounding area.
- Cut grass, trim, rake leaves, clean areas.
- Plant grass, flowers, trees and shrubs along with pruning trees and shrubs, using gardening tools.
- Water lawn and shrubs, using hose or by activating fixed or portable sprinkler systems.
- Spray lawn, shrubs and trees with fertilizer, herbicides and insecticides, using hand or automatic sprayer.
- Maintains driveways, parking lots, and walkways by removing debris, litter, snow and ice.
- Spread salt on public passage ways to prevent ice buildup.
- Perform basic maintenance on equipment used.
- Perform routine, repetitive tasks, using standard procedures, tools, materials, equipment or machinery.
- Help maintenance department as needed.
Position requires the ability to read and follow directions; operate industrial lawn equipment; and lift up to 50 pounds.

Minimum Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent plus at least one month of directly related training and/or experience in grounds care and grounds care equipment maintenance is required.
- Valid driver's license with eligibility to drive on UNL business required.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds required.
- Availability to assist with emergencies outside of normal working hours required.
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are preferred but not required:
- Training and/or experience in the following fields is helpful but not required: grounds care and grounds care equipment maintenance.
- Turf and building pesticide applications license preferred but not required.
