Habilitation Counselor - IRTS Statewide Team
Position Summary:
Rutgers The State University is seeking a Habilitation Counselor in the Intensive Recovery Treatment Services (IRTS) Statewide within Rutgers University Behavioral Healthcare.
As a member of the Intensive Recovery Treatment Services (IRTS) team, the Habilitation Counselor will provide case management services for State prison incarcerated individuals with Opioid Use Disorders (OUD) to assist with transition from prison to the community.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Provides case management services to assist individuals to gain access to needed medical, social, education, mental health, addiction, cooccurring and other services.
- Demonstrates the ability to engage and establish a working relationship with, and provide services to individuals with opioid use disorders (OUD).
- Provides specialized addiction treatment/co-occurring services.
- Maintains appropriate records as mandated by University Behavioral Health Care policy, IRTS contract and applicable accrediting organization standards.
- Maintains a cooperative working relationship with others.
- Demonstrates commitment to the mission and goals of the unit.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in the mental health field or other appropriate human services related field plus one (1) year of related experience.
- Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- May be scheduled to work one (1) weekend day and/or occasional evenings.
- This position requires visits to individuals incarcerated in the thirteen state prisons throughout the state in addition to community based outreach.
- Individual wellness checks and crisis intervention required.
- Subject to unpredictable situations to include behavioral, medical and psychiatric.
- Occasionally exposed to patients exhibiting assaultive behaviors.
- Exposure to blood borne pathogens that requires use of personal protective equipment.
- Ability to speak clearly and write proficiently.
- Hearing is essential.
- The ability to focus on the task at hand despite numerous interruptions.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and document into an electronic medical record while in the field.
- The employee spends much time driving, walking, standing, bending and talking with individuals served in the community located throughout the state.
- The employee can expect to lift up to 30 pounds.
