Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Athletics Director (the “Director”), the Head Coach is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, and management of Chapman University’s NCAA Division III varsity men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs. Primary responsibilities include coaching, recruiting, student-athlete development, program administration, budget management, fundraising, and supporting the Department of Athletics. This is a 10-month position, operating annually from August 1 through May 31.
Responsibilities
Coaching & Student-Athlete Development
- Coach, instruct, and condition swimming and diving student-athletes in sport fundamentals, skill development, and strategy while fostering an educationally sound and developmentally enriching environment.
- Develop and conduct daily practices and oversee a competitive NCAA intercollegiate schedule.
Recruiting
- Recruit, motivate, and retain student athletes consistent with institutional admissions and roster management expectations.
Team Leadership & Management
- Support the holistic development of student-athletes by partnering with different University colleagues and offices.
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches, volunteer coaches, and student workers.
Compliance & Institutional Alignment
- Ensure full compliance with NCAA and SCIAC rules and regulations.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Develop and obtain the Director’s approval of an annual operating budget.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant coaching experience with assigned sport(s).
