Head Equipment Manager of Athletics
The Head Equipment Manager oversees daily equipment operations, staff, and logistics for 20 NCAA Division I athletic programs, managing procurement, inventory, and distribution of athletic gear and apparel. Supervises a team of full-time and student workers while ensuring compliance with safety and NCAA standards through established procedures and regular audits. Coordinates closely with the apparel provider to meet team needs efficiently and manages logistical support during practices and games. Promotes a culture of safety and maintenance while overseeing facility cleanliness, organization and equipment upkeep.
Education and Experience
- Bachelors degree is required; additional consideration will be given for a masters degree.
- Five (5) plus years of experience in equipment operations.
- Experience with NCAA Division I athletics programs or professional sports teams is preferred.
- AEMA certification is preferred.
Skills and Knowledge
- Experience with equipment purchasing distribution, collection, and laundering.
- Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with NCAA, ACC, and institutional rules and regulations.
- Detail-oriented individual with a high standard for cleanliness and organization.
- Excellent organizational, inventory, and communication skills.
- Strong management skills.
- Ability to work with equipment suppliers, coaches, staff, and student-athletes regarding apparel and equipment issues.
- Able to manage people and resources in a collaborative, team-based environment.
- Flexible work hours; must be able to work nights and weekends as necessary.
- Proficient computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite and online based order platforms.
- Ability to lift 50lbs and work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel.
- Budget management experience.
Responsibilities
- Inventory control, develop procedures and audit - Manage inventory for 20 NCAA Division I programs, including procurement planning, audit execution, and record maintenance.
- Develop procedures to ensure compliance, accuracy, and efficient gear disbursement in coordination with Nike through supervision of staff.
- Equipment and Apparel Coordination & Procurement- Lead purchasing and distribution of equipment and apparel in conjunction with staff.
- Work directly with Nike and supervise staff to ensure timely ordering, consistent branding, inventory management and proper resource allocation across all teams.
- Individual Team support- Provide direct support to teams during practices and games, including packing, laundering, equipment management, equipment upkeep and distributing gear.
- Oversee logistics of equipment and ensure athletes are equipped for competition and training.
- Maintenance and Organization- Ensure laundry systems, storage, and equipment spaces are clean, safe, and operational.
- Manage chemical inventory, coordinate machine upkeep, and maintain compliance with University, NCAA and safety standards.
- Supervision of Equipment Room Staff- Supervise four full-time staff and student workers.
- Assign tasks, train team members, and promote a safe, organized, clean, efficient, and service-focused work environment.
