Head Mens Soccer Coach
Job Summary
The primary responsibility of this position is to organize, recruit, develop and instruct soccer student athletes in concert with the academic mission of the university, Landmark Conference and NCAA rules and regulations. Additionally, the role includes a secondary administrative duty, which will be reassessed annually. This position is classified as exempt under FLSA regulations.
Specific Responsibilities
- Serve as the Head Coach of the Men's Soccer program.
- Provide oversight of all operations and programming including coaching, training, and skill development of all student-athletes during practices and competition.
- Develop and implement organized practices and game strategies.
- Demonstrate emotional intelligence and adaptability to adverse situations; a strong commitment and the ability to enhance student-athlete experiences through motivation and leadership development.
- Evaluate and recruit qualified student-athletes.
- Facilitate the operating budget and support fundraising opportunities for the Men's soccer program, including One SU and Orange and Maroon giving days and promotional activities, speaking engagements, and alumni events as requested or approved for the sports program.
- Develop a schedule that includes competitive regional contests and oversees team travel, equipment, and supplies.
- Partner with athletic administration and campus stakeholders to foster the academic progress and success of student-athletes including promoting and maintaining an environment that encourages academic achievement as measured by academic eligibility, retention, and graduation.
- Promote the physical and mental well-being of all program participants. Promote and foster a positive team environment, appropriate behavior, and sportsmanship by team members, assistant coaches, and staff.
- Develop positive rapport with athletics staff, as well as SU community
- Exercise functional and administrative hiring, supervision and development for any assigned assistant coaches and other support staff, to include their compliance with NCAA, Conference and university rules and policies.
- Adhere to all NCAA Division III and Landmark Conference rules and bylaws.
- Partner with campus stakeholders including the offices of student life, counseling, facilities, and admissions to ensure support of the Men's soccer program and student-athlete experiences.
- Fulfill secondary administrative duty as Coordinator of Intramural Sports.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree required; Masters degree preferred.
Experience
Five years of soccer coaching and recruiting experience required. College level experience required. Prior experience as a Head Coach preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
The person in this position must have a passion for enhancing student athlete experiences and knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations; patience and excellent interpersonal skills; flexibility to meet changing demands, and ability to build strong collaborative relationships. They must be able to self-motivate, and be a confident, energetic, and enthusiastic individual. They must be an energetic and detail-oriented self - starter; social media savvy and strong interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated integrity, leadership, and excellent knowledge of the sport. Requires ability to multi-task and attend to detail. Must have the ability to work independently and to set priorities; but also advocates team concepts and functions as a team member as needed. Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to counsel and advise players and be able to motivate recruits, players, and alumni to support the program. Skilled at identifying developmental needs of others and coaching or otherwise helping others to improve their knowledge or skills.

This role is identified as one that includes significant interaction with students and/or campus activities, and/or has oversight for disciplinary procedures. Therefore, you are considered a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and required to report any Clery Act crime disclosed to you and remain compliant with annual CSA training requirements.
Physical Demand
Must have the energy and enthusiasm and mobility to actively coach the sport. Position requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time. Position requires the ability to move about the campus. Position requires frequent lifting, stooping, crouching, and bending. Working conditions are indoors and outdoors.
