Schedule: up to 28 hours per week
Compensation: $12.50-$19.50 depending on qualifications
Reports to: Health Sciences Resource and Tutorial Coordinator

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide individual and group tutoring in content-specific courses.
  • Assist the Tutorial Coordinator with the operation of the Health Sciences Resource and Tutorial Center.
  • Help supervise, train and serve as a mentor to student tutors.
  • Be familiar with the curriculum of the GRCC courses in the assigned content area.
  • Assist Tutorial Coordinator in preparing special review materials.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of special programs, as well as, group tutoring sessions as requested by the supervisor.
  • Work cooperatively and maintain rapport and a close working relationship with students, staff, faculty and administration.
  • Promote and develop the academic success of students by encouraging a positive attitude and independent, self-actualized learning.
  • Assist with the management and security of all resources, including the computers in the lab.
  • Assist with the maintenance and updating of the Learning Center website and Blackboard site
  • Assist in monitoring students using the lab via a computerized system.
  • Discuss lab services with students during class visitations to the center.
  • Communicate with the appropriate instructors and staff as needed regarding the individual needs of students.
  • Keep the Tutorial Coordinator informed of any problems experienced in the center by students or staff.
  • Attend Tutorial Center meetings as requested by the Tutorial Coordinator.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Follow College policy on the Family Educational Right to Privacy Act (FERPA).

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Qualifications

  • Demonstrate content knowledge of areas to be tutored (nursing ADN and LPN, dental hygiene, dental assisting, radiologic technology, occupational therapy assistant, medical assistant).
  • Experience teaching/tutoring students preferred.
  • License or Certification, or eligibility for License or Certification, in the field required.

Skills

  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population and faculty team.
  • Proficiency in using instructional technology and learning management systems (e.g.,Gmail, Canvas, Blackboard).
  • Possession of good people service skills with a student-oriented focus.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and maintain rapport with students, staff, faculty and administrators.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to assist students and staff in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and possession of character qualities including organization, promptness, courtesy, confidentiality and dependability.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.

  • An interest in working with diverse student populations, who represent a wide range of age, ethnicity, national origin, and ability.
  • Demonstrated responsiveness, initiative, and organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to perform routine and unexpected duties.
  • A willingness and an ability to learn college systems.
  • High energy level with enthusiasm and an interest in helping and supporting students and colleagues.
  • Ability to work under pressure while possessing mature judgment and flexibility in regards to interruptions and schedule changes.
  • Must use good judgment in handling sensitive or difficult situations in a professional manner.

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work flexible hours (i.e. evenings and night) including occasional weekends.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that calls for flexibility/adaptability and the ability to handle multiple interruptions and make quick decisions.
