Summary of Position
The History Faculty is a full-time, 9-month/166-day position. The faculty member is responsible for teaching 15 credits each fall and spring semester. Courses may be taught using both traditional and non-traditional delivery methods, including face-to-face, online, computer-aided, distance learning, self-paced, and interdisciplinary. Faculty may need to teach at any RRCC campus and at a variety of times (days, evenings, and some weekends).
The faculty member develops and evaluates curricula, ensures alignment with community needs and regulatory requirements, documents curriculum changes based on assessments, implements retention strategies, and integrates technology into coursework. Additional responsibilities involve maintaining office hours, assisting with departmental duties, providing academic advising to students, participating in college events, serving on committees, and representing the college in the community. Professional development is a key component of the role, with opportunities for growth to support both teaching and service functions aligned with the college's goals.

Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in History OR Master's degree plus 18 graduate credit hours in History, from an accredited institution + Tested experience may be used in lieu of the degree requirement on a case-by-case basis.
- Experience teaching and/or training various subjects within the discipline.
- Actively seek opportunities for professional growth by embracing challenges, learning from feedback, engaging in professional development, and applying new strategies to improve your practice.
- Demonstrated commitment working with and supporting students from diverse populations, which may include but are not limited to, historically marginalized populations such as people of color, LGBTQ+ community members, veterans, first generation graduates, and people with disabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience using inclusive, equity-minded pedagogical practices in a community college setting that support student belonging, accessibility, and success for a diverse population of learners, including first-generation students and those from historically marginalized communities.
- Experience implementing active, student-centered teaching strategies common to community college classrooms-such as collaborative learning, inquiry-based discussion, scaffolded assignments, and applied or experiential learning-to promote engagement, persistence, and completion in history courses.
- Demonstrated commitment to high-impact teaching practices in an open-access community college environment, including scaffolded learning, formative assessment, and reflective practice, with a focus on supporting student persistence, confidence, and academic momentum.
- Experience teaching both U.S. History and World History in a community college or similarly diverse, open-access setting, with the ability to contextualize historical content across local, national, and global perspectives and adapt course design to meet the needs of varied student populations.
Physical & Cognitive Demands
The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.
- Occasionally moves, positions, and transports office and classroom materials weighing up to 10 lbs.
- This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
- The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.
Advertised Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $78,000, commensurate with education and experience. This salary is based on 166 contract days. The projected start date for this position is August 1, 2026. This is a full-time, 9-month, FLSA exempt position. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System. Faculty may have the option to teach additional course overloads in accordance with college policies and procedures for additional compensation.
