Hourly Pooled - Carey Family Papers, Archives Scan Technician
The Carey Archives Scan Tech will work to digitize selected materials from the Carey Family Papers, 1869-1978. An Archives Scan Tech digitizes analog archival collection materials of all formats (paper, film, photographs, audio, motion picture film, and video) to precise standards for preservation and access to the AHC's online digital collections.
Joseph Maull Carey served as mayor of Cheyenne (1881-1885), territorial delegate to the United States Congress (1885-1891), Wyoming governor (1910-1915 and 1920-1924), and United States Senator (1930-1937). In 1890, Carey introduced the act establishing Wyoming statehood and authored the famous Carey Act, a bill which contributed to irrigation progress in the Rocky Mountain states. The Carey family papers contain political papers, correspondence, subject files, newspaper clippings, and business records that document the political and business careers of Joseph M. Carey and his sons, Robert D. Carey and Charles D. Carey.
The starting rate of pay is $10.50 per hour.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Primary duties are digital scanning of analog archival materials according to archival imaging standards, the transport and handling of that material according to archival best practices, and the creation of descriptive metadata and supporting documentary records. This position reports directly to the Digitization Lab Supervisor.
Other miscellaneous and related duties may be assigned at the discretion of the Digitization Lab Supervisor or the Collections Manager, as related to the Carey Family Papers.
Competencies
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks, performing them in a relatively short period of time.
- Ability to communicate effectively both in oral and written format.
- Computer, software, and writing skills commensurate with the creation of college level class assignments.
- Physically capable of moving and lifting up to 50lbs.
Remote Work Eligibility
This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent.
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced computer skills relating to digital scanning hardware and software.
- Familiarity with metadata standards, particularly Dublin Core.
- Knowledge of archives theory and practice.
- Familiarity with Excel.
- Interest in western history, photography, and audio-visual (AV) would be beneficial in this position.
