Job Description
Reporting to the Senior HR Manager, the Human Resources Specialist will play a pivotal role in the FBRI HR team by providing key support to the employee lifecycle. This position will have a primary focus on onboarding/offboarding and performance management processes by facilitating technical onboarding for all faculty, staff and wage hires and administering the performance evaluation process for faculty and staff. This position will also administer Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) contracts, and maintain confidential records and information.
The ideal candidate is committed to participating in a collaborative office environment and possesses the ability to manage day-to-day personnel actions with discretion and sound decision-making. They will need to communicate clearly, effectively, and empathetically and work collaboratively to accomplish common goals. They will provide superior customer service through responsiveness, and professional demeanor. They will analyze HR issues and recommend actions based on knowledge of processes, University policy, federal, and state laws. The HR Specialist will also engage with university HR partners to stay up to date on current processes and systems.
This position offers opportunities to expand responsibilities over time in areas such as employee relations support, HR reporting and analytics, training and employee engagement initiatives, and immigration compliance. The Human Resources Specialist may assist with program coordination, process improvement efforts, and expanded consultative support in collaboration with the Senior HR Manager. Over time, the incumbent will have the opportunity to deepen their expertise, take on more strategic HR initiatives, and contribute to shaping FBRI HR practices that support the institute’s mission and people.
Required Qualifications
- Experience working in an HR Specialist, HR Coordinator, or similar role.
- Working knowledge of employment law and HR compliance
- Experience administering HR processes, including Onboarding/Offboarding
- Experience with performance management facilitation
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Superior customer service, responsiveness, and professional demeanor
- Ability to manage confidential information with discretion
- Ability to multi-task and work independently
- Ability to work in a fast paced, high volume environment with efficiency.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or equivalent training/experience in related field.
- SHRM certification
- Experience working in an academic or research environment.
- Experience with HRIS systems
